Chiara Ferragni Goes Up Against Arid Desert Conditions — And Still Has Great Skin

At several points in the year — or maybe, just today — we’ve complained about the weather, all scorching sun and oppressing humidity. Melting makeup, parched or unbalanced skin, and even when the sun stops shining, an inescapable sunburn; these are just some of the unpleasant situations we’ve had to deal with, thanks to our tropical climate. But, have you tried being in a desert?
That’s just one of the insane environments SK-II participants are put through in their new campaign, spearheaded by SK-II and produced by National Geographic. In SK-II’s grandest experiment yet, and that’s discounting the incredibly meaningful ones they’ve done in the past, they’re now pushing the limits of four international celebrities by placing them in some of the world’s harshest locations — and having their skin live to survive the tale.
Actually, more than that, since the campaign and film series is called, ‘Face The Wild, Face The Camera’. After a gruelling day in extreme cold, hot, or polluted environments, they have to complete an on-location beauty shoot too, then and there. Now, that’s extreme.
Still, challenge accepted. And you can count Chiara Ferragni in too.

For her ‘Face The Wild’ portion, the international fashion icon and NYLON cover girl had to take a trek in the arid Anza Borrego Desert, in what’s described as “600,000 acres of moisture-less, barren, lunar-like desert”. If you look at the video, you’ll see land that’s so dry there’s hardly any surviving vegetation, with ground that’s cracked and parched.
“[These are] some of the worst conditions I’ve been under,” she said, and it’s no wonder; the landscape’s known to have temperatures regularly above 40°C, so you’ll bet that a few hours in the Western American region after, you’ll start to feel lightheaded and dehydrated. She was also accompanied by Hannah Reyes, a National Geographic Young Explorer who’s out to document the expedition, so you know it’s the real deal.
Oh and one more thing — she had this.

If you don’t already recognise it, that’s their famed Facial Treatment Essence. Given the literal desert conditions, her skin would have been really stressed; we have no idea how dry it would be really, and we haven’t even gotten to the strong, harmful UV exposure part. Water would have been stripped from the skin, further weakening its ability to protect itself, which would then lead to further dehydration — not ideal at all.

But, as you can see from the pictures and videos, she still looks good, mostly because of Pitera™, the key ingredient that makes up over 90% of the essence. The bio-ingredient contains vitamins, amino acids, and minerals that primarily help in cell renewal and keeping the skin healthy. In this case, when skin is conditioned by Pitera™, moisture also gets locked within even after a long time, which then helps it to overcome the dry conditions. That means it serves two functions — protects our skin from dryness, while keeping it constantly hydrated and nourished.
Don’t believe us? You’ll have to watch the video then.

During the ‘Face The Camera’ challenge, where she had to look her glamorous self in front of notable photographer Jesper Mcilroy — and here’s the best part: she absolutely slays. It’s probably due to both Ferragni’s experience in front of the camera and Mcilroy’s skill in capturing her beauty, but even with minimal makeup, you can tell that her skin’s miraculously alright. Glowing, even.
And hey, you know exactly why. After this, our harsh, humid Singapore weather seems real easy to take on.
