Tinted moisturisers are having their time in the beauty spotlight recently, and it’s no surprise. Trying to prevent our makeup from melting off in soaring temperatures is enough of a daily struggle. So instead of heavy foundation, a tinted moisturiser definitely sounds like a smarter choice, which is why the team was excited to try out Shiseido’s new Synchro Skin Tinted Gel Cream.
We wore the tinted moisturiser for a day, and here are our thoughts on it.

“This product is called “Tinted Gel Cream”, while the press release describes it as a tinted moisturiser. So it’s a tinted moisturiser. After my skincare this morning, I wasn’t sure whether to use my usual moisturiser and makeup primer, or replace both of them with this product. Then out of habit, I decided to use them all. The product has a “mousse-like” texture which looked a bit airy, and as expected, felt very light on the skin — like there’s nothing there. Even after layers of skincare and a primer, applying this skincare-makeup hybrid on top of everything didn’t make any product on my face pill (so far so good). The product spread easily, was absorbed quickly, and settled into a dewy finish. I’m not a fan of any dewy finish; in particular because my skin still feels tacky at the end of my makeup, and I usually end up shiny by the afternoon. I love you Shiseido, but I don’t love a dewy finish. It’s not you; it’s me. I will say though, after applying the Tinted Gel Cream, my skin tone was slightly more even and pores minimised. The coverage is light — like the texture. Could I last a day in just this without any foundation? Yes, because my skin is generally okay. I’d use it on weekends and on holiday; but not daily to the office for meetings or for events. I wouldn’t recommend using this alone for those looking to conceal blemishes or heavy pigmentation; that’s not the purpose or claim of this product.”

“I love multi-tasking products that save time, and this tinted gel definitely falls under that — it moisturises the skin, provides coverage, and contains SPF! We’re off to a great start then. The first thing I noticed was how light it felt, and I do like its weightless texture; it glided over and blended easily into my skin, giving this natural and glowy “my skin but better” effect. Not everyone’s a fan of dewy skin, but I am, and this achieves that effortlessly (you won’t look too shiny). And despite the light coverage, I find that it still evens out my skin tone and redness, so I’m pretty pleased. The bonus is that it didn’t flake or get patchy after a long day either. I’d go for this on good skin days and weekends, or times when I’d otherwise head out barefaced — though now more confidently with this bit of help.”

“Tinted moisturisers are a staple in my daily makeup routine, so I welcomed Shiseido’s with open arms. Its lightweight, mousse-like texture reminds me of the BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream, and similarly, it went on smooth and blended well into my skin, leaving a fresh dewy finish — something I’ve grown to like, in fact. It evens out my complexion and tones down the flush, but the sheer formula doesn’t hide blemishes or pigmentation, so you’ll need a concealer for that. Those with sensitive skin like myself would appreciate its fragrance-free and paraben-free formula as well, and since it also contains a physical sunscreen of SPF30, you can skip the extra step. The sloth in me is pleased, indeed.”

“I’m a fan of using tinted moisturiser instead of foundation so I was interested to try this. Application was easy enough, and helped cover my small blemishes after one layer — but this didn’t last the whole day; by lunch I used some concealer. The finish wasn’t as dewy as I liked, but my skin has been relatively dry recently, so adding a small dab of moisturiser before using this works for me.”

“I think I’ve found my everyday go-to product with Shiseido’s Tinted Gel Cream. The coverage is decent and it has a dewy finish, leaving my skin looking fresh. The product already has SPF so I can skip the sunscreen, too. I especially love that the product gets absorbed really quickly so it feels light on the face, and not sticky — like I’ve got no make-up on. I try to avoid wearing foundation as much as possible because I don’t like the feeling or idea of wearing heavy makeup daily. Whether I’m going for a natural makeup look or a more glammed up look, I can stick to the Tinted Gel Cream as my base.”
