For a collection that’s inspired by background melodies, its result is anything but forgettable.
To draw reference from the music played in elevators is particularly intriguing, and one that could only be conceived through the creative union of streetwear designer Virgil Abloh and luxury fragrance brand Byredo’s founder Ben Gorham.
In an interview with i-D, Gorham asked: “How do we create [a] product that lives in the background?” The result was ‘Elevator Music’, a capsule which the luxury fragrance brand founder described as “leaving an impression with minimal impact”.
Standing central to the entire collection is the fragrance, which sees fashion-focused Abloh venturing into uncharted territories of beauty and fragrance. “This is my first time designing something invisible,” said the designer to Vogue.
The scent contains notes of midnight violet, bamboo, ambrette, and floral amirs to create a comforting woody-floral parfum—one that is subtle, sweet, and in just the right intensity. Complete with an understated white-grey packaging, it has a quiet appeal that’ll “play a background to one’s life”.
You will also find the scent in hand creams and hair perfumes, with the same thread of simplicity woven through the rest of the collection as well. Expect bags in black and white, with angular shapes and clean lines—you know, simple, classic, and functional—but above all, elevated.
‘Elevator Music’ collection is available at the Off-White flagship boutique.
