Longer Videos On Instagram: Yay Or Nay?

Instagram, quit playin’ game with our hearts.
It wasn’t too long ago that they announced the new algorithm they’ll be adopting for the platform, which will supposedly show us moments they think we want to see first. That whole debacle caused many brands and Instagram users to lose their shit and flood our feeds with all those “turn on my notifications” posts this week, when in actual fact, the change wasn’t even rolling out yet (Instagram made a statement on Twitter). On the bright side, it probably helped you weed out people whom you don’t want to follow anymore, so that’s a small win right?

But now, Instagram has just announced another new update – they’re extending the amount of time you can record video footage from 15 seconds to 60 seconds. Yes, a whole minute. And guess what, iPhone users? They’re also bringing back the ability to stitch together multiple clips from the videos in your camera roll (sorry Android users, you’ve gotta wait a little longer). FINALLY!
According to Instagram, the amount of time people spend watching videos on the platform has significantly increased by more than 40% over the past six months. With this update, they hope to provide you with the flexibility to tell your stories in more fun and creative ways, which may or may not sit well with some users.
The longer, 60-second video function is being rolled out today and will be made available to everyone in the coming months. In the meantime, you’ll be able to make use of the deeply missed multi-clip video from this week, as part of Instagram for iOS version 7.19 in Apple’s App Store.
