Within 24 hours of Balmain’s creative director’s announcement of his collaboration with Nike, Olivier Rousteing and the sportswear label unveiled the images of upcoming collection. The French fashion designer puts his signature touches on a selection of Nike’s iconic pieces for both women and men using a predominantly black and gold colour scheme. At the heart of the NikeLab x Olivier Rousteing: Football Nouveau collection is Rousteing’s love for football that dates back to when he was younger. He takes visual cues from the off-pitch look of professional football players competing in Europe’s biggest championship this summer to create a collection that marries the worlds of luxury and sport functionality.
Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo (pictured above with Rousteing) was creative director’s muse and main inspiration for the line, which saw the inclusion of his take on the Mercurial Superfly – a shoe that Ronaldo wears on the pitch everyday. The Football Nouveau collection features sweatpants, shirts, a particularly Balmain-looking jacket called the NikeLab N98 and a slew of football boots – the NikeLab Footscape Magista X OR, NikeLab Free Mercurial Flyknit X OR, NikeLab Roshe Tiempo VI X OR and NikeLab Free Hypervenom 2 X OR.
