Here’s a challenge: don’t overpack.
Easier said than done, we concede; but with June just around the corner, it might be high time you step up your holiday packing game – before you end up lugging around extra weight you didn’t even actually use on the trip. Peep our top picks for travelling easy, convenient, and oh so light.
Za Cream-to-Powder CC Stick
Our pick for base makeup, if you’re not usually one for heavy foundations or BB creams (especially on a sweaty beach holiday!) Just twist up, swipe, and blend gently into your face; the formula is light yet still provides excellent coverage in evening out your skin tone – and there’s SPF protection. It’s a cream-based formula that sets instantly to no-shine powder, so you won’t feel a thing after you’ve blended it all in. Bonus – it blends so smoothly you can just use your fingers; so you won’t even need to pack a bevy of brushes.
Available at Watsons
LANEIGE BB Cushion (Pore Control)
Alternatively, there’s the mighty cushion compact soaked generously in lightweight BB cream, for days when you’re feeling like you want to look a little dewier. Tried and tested, this one from Laneige is hands down our favourite of the lot for its excellent consistency and pickup, that translates beautifully into glowing, even coverage. Also, rumour has it Korean air stewardesses swear by BB cushions for their dry and musty long-haul flights – if it’s good enough for them, it’s good enough for us.
$59, available at LANEIGE boutiques and counters
Becca Ombre Rouge Eye Palette
Let’s be real; you don’t actually need three different eyeshadow palettes on holiday. In fact, with some discipline you’ll find that you never actually deviate from three or four main shades, depending on your daily makeup look. We’re calling it and naming the most versatile eyeshadow shade as brown – it can take you anywhere from daytime appropriate to dramatic, nighttime smokey eye. For a little more interest, spring for this warm-toned 5-shadow palette, which is everything you need plus an extra transitional shade thrown in just for good measure. Bonus – the bronzy shimmer shadow can double as bronzer, and the darkest shade for your eyebrows too.
$60, available at Sephora
NYX Cosmetics Wonder Stick
‘2-in-1’ – music to our ears. No one likes travelling with a bronzer, highlighter, contour palette, and brushes, especially when at the end of the day – you’ve still only got one face. Instead, just slip one of these aptly named contour-highlight sticks into your purse, which, frankly, are also easier tools to use for achieving precision in sculpting your face. The fact that they’re in stick form also means they’re less likely to shatter or melt in your check-in luggage, saving you unnecessary heartbreak when you’re reunited with your makeup at the luggage carousel.
$20, available at Sephora
THEFACESHOP Concealer Dual Veil
Obviously you weren’t going to bring your usual concealer palette or pots, but how does having two concealer consistencies in one product sound? With a liquid concealer on one end and a stick concealer on the other, this baby lets you switch up your makeup game even within a short-haul trip. (You and I both know there are days you wake up looking like you need heavier duty liquid coverage over a regular cover stick.) This one from THEFACESHOP features a cutesy collab with the KAKAO FRIENDS, for a little extra fun. Plus, liquid concealers always make good primers too.
$21.90, available at THEFACESHOP stores
Revlon Chubby Balm Sticks
We’d love to give you a “top pick” for travel-worthy lip products, but lipstick is our one Achilles’ heel in life. We just can’t choose. But if we absolutely had to pick one type of lippie to travel with, it would definitely be the fuss-free twist-up lip chubbies from Revlon, which come in a range of finishes – matte, glossy, and regular balm – for you to select wisely from. These chubbies win primarily for their stellar packaging – sturdy case that won’t snap or come off in the depths of our makeup bags; handy twist-up application that’s great for on-the-go; and the wonderful fact that chubby sticks and lip pencils are less prone to melting than regular lipsticks. Thank you, makeup gods; it looks like we’re all set.
$20.90, available at Watsons, Guardian, and leading supermarkets
