So you’re probably already familiar with Vans: if you don’t already own a pair (or two), then at least one of your friends certainly will. Which is why this week, we’re bringing you not one, but two new Vans releases, hot and fresh off the press. We can already hear the stampede of sneakerheads in the distance.
Vans x DABSMYLA
To bring a punch of colour and quirky sketches to the renowned brand, Vans has teamed up with DABSMYLA, the LA-based brainchild of an Australian street artist couple. The dynamic husband and wife duo are behind numerous beautiful murals that have decorated the globe, from Rio de Janeiro, London and Detriot, and they’ve also been credited for their larger than life set design and work for the 2015 MTV Movie Awards.
Channeling their intrinsically vibrant approach to art, DABSMYLA have created a graphic print to outfit three women’s Classic footwear styles. Their designs for the Sk8-Hi Slim, Authentic and Classic Slip-on all feature a peeking fox alongside a broken matchstick and apple core, creating a unique print that exemplifies the artist duos theory of combining found elements to create something that is uniquely their own.
Of course, Vans and DABSMYLA haven’t left us hanging with that. The collaboration also features the duo’s kitschy art and designs on wearable pieces including a raglan style t-shirt, hoodie and tee dress, with accessories ranging from a backpack, trucker hat and canoodle socks. So alright, okay, just take our money already!
Vans x Kyle Walker: Kyle Walker Pro
This one’s for the skaters out there. Oklahoma-native Kyle Walker has been making aerodynamic waves in the skating scene this year, having recently earned mindblowing video parts and a newly minted pro board. Joining Vans, the skateboarder is introducing the all-new Kyle Walker Pro, which features Vans’ revolutionary Wafflecup technology.
For unfamiliar fans out there, the Vans Wafflecup is designed to deliver the best of both worlds — bringing the support and stability of a cupsole shoe without sacrificing any of the boardfeel and grip – for which legendary vulcanized Vans skate shoes are revered. Walker’s shoe in particular is designed for maximum comfort, with a thicker insole, tongue and a more cushioned sole; but don’t let those design elements fool you, it still “skates great right out of the box”, he proclaims. Sadly, the red version of the shoes aren’t available on our shores, but we all live for that monochromatic look anyway, right?
Vans x DABSMYLA, $89-109 for footwear, $69-169 for Apparel and Accessories, available from 15 July at Vans Stores in Ion Orchard, Bugis+, Jurong Point and Raffles City. Vans.com.sg
Vans Kyle Walker Pro, $109, available in all colours (except red) from 9 July at all Vans Pro Skate retailers. Vans.com/kylewalker
