September is officially the best month for music fans in Singapore, with the star-studded Ultra Singapore music festival and F1 Night Race concerts happening. But slotted in during the week between both events is Music Matters, a music festival that aims to raise the profile of talented musicians from around the globe.
From India to Israel, there’ll be over 30 artists from across 15 countries playing at the four-day festival, with a good mix of young upstarts and seasoned veterans featured in this year’s line-up. To give you an idea, there’s The Veronicas, an Australian pop punk duo of identical twins; Alex Cuba, a singer-songwriter from Canada; Raisa, one of Indonesia’s biggest superstars, and Garden City Movement; a funky electronic Indie band from Israel.
With such a diverse range of genres on display, it makes sense to have a diverse range of music venues as well, and that’s where the Timbre Group steps in. The dining chain’s many outlets will play host to some of the gigs, and will be joined by Millian, a nightclub that is located at St. James PowerStation.
Lastly, we’ve really got to hand it to the organisers of Music Matters for doing away with ticket charges and having no entrance fees. Two thumbs up for that!
