‘Super Mario’ Bounces Onto The Apple Store Bandwagon

It’s official. Nintendo’s developing a Super Mario mobile phone game, and it’ll be arriving exclusively on the iOS platform.
The game was unveiled by Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto and Nintendo marketing manager Bill Trinen at Apple’s iPhone 7 event on Wednesday (Sept 8), and it’ll be the first time ever that Nintendo is going mobile.

Titled ‘Super Mario Run’, the game will consist of three modes. Firstly, there’s the traditional 2D mode, where players can collect as many points as possible, by running and jumping to reach the flagpole at the end of the level. The controls are extremely simple. Mario auto-runs, and all you’ve got to do is tap on your phone screen to make him jump.
The second mode is a “Toad Tally” mode where players can lock horns against each other, while a third mode allows you to construct your own “Mushroom Kingdom” with the coins you’ve collected.
“We have created Super Mario Run to be perfect for playing on your iPhone,” said Mr Miyamoto.
“Super Mario has evolved whenever he has encountered a new platform, and for the first time ever, players will be able to enjoy a full-fledged Super Mario game with just one hand, giving them the freedom to play while riding the subway or my favorite, eating a hamburger,” he added.

Whether this leads to the insane level of popularity that Pokémon Go enjoyed remains to be seen. But one thing’s for sure: it’s definitely a great move on Nintendo’s part to introduce a classic game to a new generation of gamers.
‘Super Mario Run’ will be released in December later this year. While there’s no word as to how much it’ll cost to play it yet, it’ll be available in over 100 countries in nine languages.
Android users have no reason to be upset though. They just need to be a little more patient. “We do intend to release the game on Android devices at some point in the future,” a Nintendo spokesperson told Kotaku.
