The one mind-numbing uncertainty we couldn’t get off our minds while looking at Delpozo’s SS17 collection: How did they get fabric to look like that? Impressively resilient structures of linen, organza and the likes of it held its geometric shape down the runway and we were flabbergasted that even the fluid fabrics appeared stiff as a rock. Or perhaps it takes true craftsmanship and textile foresight to be able to pull it off, such is designer Josep Font’s ever-expanding imagination in fabric manipulation. The gravity-defying numbers utilised texture to its fullest; spotting pinwheels consisting of shredded fabric and a reef-like knit. As if to combat the stiff, rigid billowing sleeves and straightforward folds of fabric, the colour palette was suitably watered down with soft pastels of tangy, muted hues – orange, pink, beige, grey, white. Delpozo rules the game of haute couture now, to say the least – and this is merely Ready-To-Wear!
