Fashion recycles itself. That’s something that has never changed, and probably never will. Despite that fact, there is a select group of products that have always remained relevant through the ages, a phenomenon that still lives today.
One of these products is Clarks’ Desert Boots, footwear that owes its roots to the harsh desert landscape of Cairo, Egypt.
Originally designed by Nathan Clark as sturdy, but breathable safari boots for Britain’s Eight Army during the North African campaign of World War II, Clarks’ Desert Boots failed to hit the heights that was expected of its (then) newfangled design in the U.K.
That is, until the collection made its way to Chicago’s Shoe Fair in 1949. The rest as they say, is history. Now, Clarks’ Desert Boots are some of the most stylish kicks around – perfect for the urban terrain, and well, still extremely handy for traversing the desert if need be.
Made out of suede leather for its uppers and crepe for its soles, Desert Boots are hardier and more durable than plenty of shoes in the market, without compromising on style too.
While it’s practically impossible to predict whether these babies will still be popular in say, another 100 years, it’s pretty safe to assume that they will be, considering its rich history and timeless design.
