Our shoe cabinets may be full of Adidas and Nike these days, but there’ll always be space for some Vans — with its simple, yet iconic look and rugged durability, the brand’s skate shoes were our go-to sneakers before we even knew about sneakers. If you’re feeling nostalgic or just want to rock a classic, old school look with a modern twist, you might want to check out the upcoming Vans collaboration with Hong Kong-based streetwear brand Madness.
Using the SK8-Hi and SK8-Mid silhouettes as its canvas, the collaboration equips the shoes with a suede upper in various tones of grey or blue for a subtle two-tone effect. There are some cool additions like a rear zipper on the SK8-Hi and a modification of the tongue that allows you rock the kicks without shoelaces, but what we’re digging most is the line of text found on the midsole — reading “all work and no play makes you mad”, film enthusiasts will immediately identify it a nod to the classic quote from Stanley Kubrick film The Shining.
The Vans x Madness collection will be available on Saturday, the 11th of February at Vans Ion Orchard and Limited Edt Vault in 313@Somerset with a price tag of $129. Maybe it’s time to bust our skateboards out again…
