Even if you hate pink and glitter and Hello Kitty, we’re betting that some part of you has been fawning over embroidery on clothes, because seriously, it’s one versatile trend. The easiest way to style this would be to go incredibly girly and romantic, and you wouldn’t be wrong; the imagery of pastel flowers, usually on sheer fabric, was made for blush pinks, ruffles and tulle — see this season’s Valentino runway for reference — but we like things to be a little more unexpected. Rather than crystal earrings and heels, we’re more inclined to edge it up with a pair of ankle boots, tone it down with denim, or have the delicate stitches appear on a leather jacket instead. Stick around to see how we’d wear the trend.
1. The Sheer Top
It’s one of the most obvious, but possibly hardest way to wear the trend — what on earth do you wear underneath?! Go for a bralette if you don’t mind baring some skin or a tank top if you’re more modest, either way, flaunt it with flared pants and plenty of romance.
2. The Leather Jacket
Marrying dainty embroidery on tough leather made it an instant obsession for us; opt for muted tones for your embroidery though as the bright ones tend to compete with the heavy texture. Instead, play up the colour on the rest of your outfit. We’ve paired it with sleek, minimalist accessories and a slinky dress with a subtle lustre.
3. The Off-Shoulder Blouse
Get the whole prairie feel going with a floaty, off-shoulder top, only this time, try it with your weekend essentials of a roomy woven bag and casual slingbacks.
4. Embroidered Jeans
Mom jeans get immediately more interesting with a bunch of roses blooming by their sides. Instead of feminine separates, go for a modern-grunge style with sneakers, a slouchy khaki top worn as an outer layer, and unexpected accessories.
5. On Your Feet
With block heels or ankle boots already swathed in granny-cool stitching, you an afford to go more daring with your outfit — try quirky, mismatched earrings, gingham prints, or textured tops and jackets.
