This Colourful Iniki Runner is a Nostalgic #Throwback to the 70s

When you look at the number of Stan Smiths and Superstars that Adidas releases on a regular basis, it’s pretty clear that the brand with the three stripes loves paying homage to their storied history…and what better way to do that than to drape a retro-inspired sneaker in a retro-inspired colourway? The half retro / half modern Iniki Runner has been making waves in the sneaker game since its debut last month, and it looks like Adidas is keeping that momentum going by fitting it with what might be its best colourway yet.

Dubbed “Pride of the 70s”, the sneaker is a nostalgic #throwback to the classic running shoes of that decade. To maintain an overall low key aesthetic, the sneaker’s mesh / suede upper has been draped in a muted off-white, while the serrated stripes on the side and heel tab have been made blue for a nice pop of contrasting colour. The lower half keeps it a little more modern with a comfy Boost midsole, and is paired with a striking red sole for a finishing touch. We’re definitely getting some Onitsuka Tiger vibes from these kicks, but considering how iconic those are, we’re not complaining.

The Adidas Iniki Runner Boost “Pride of the 70s” will be released on the 20th April at the brand’s official website (coincidentally, that’s a #ThrowbackThursday), and based on previous releases you can expect to pay somewhere around US$120 for a pair. Don’t get us wrong — we love how far sneakers have come in terms of design, but there’ll always be space in our shoe collections for a pair of retro (looking) kicks.
