It was only until orders for this one particular overnight mask from Glow Recipe went way above the brand’s expected sale count (and got the Internet in a frenzy, too) that we realised… watermelon does have some amazing skincare benefits, doesn’t it? Apart from being the choice fruit to quell parched throats in scorching weathers, it’s good to note that watermelon is packed chockfull of skin-hydrating vitamins and minerals that all contribute to healthy skin. Expect to see loads Vitamins A, B6 and C, as well as lycopene and amino acids when reading the ingredients list of watermelon-infused beauty products.
Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask
US$45, available at glowrecipe.com or sephora.com
Behold, the said overnight mask that got such a cult following, the site promptly sold out of product, and has even racked up a waitlist of five thousand people. According to Glow Recipe, watermelon rind and flesh are commonly used in Korea to soothe irritated and inflamed skin. This mask does just that — the cooling gel formula floods the skin with hydration that helps to calm, repair and restore tired skin. Basically, it’s an all-in-one multi-purpose face mask that can be worn to bed (pillow proof!), or as a standard wash-off mask.
Algenist Overnight Restoring Cream
$127, available at Sephora and sephora.sg
Just because its name doesn’t include the word ‘watermelon’ doesn’t mean that this luxurious night treatment doesn’t draw on the fruit’s many benefits. Formulated with rock samphire, watermelon and apple extract, as well as alguronic acid, this night cream delivers powerful anti-aging benefits with prolonged use. Wrinkles are likely to appear minimised, while skin appears more supple and rejuvenated for a beautiful glow-from-within.
Origins Make A Difference Plus+ Rejuvenating Treatment Lotion
$50, available at the Origins store and counters, Sephora and sephora.sg
It’s always good to have on a layer of toner before piling on the moisturiser, to prep the skin for more effective absorption of product. The Rejuvenating Treatment Lotion by Origins acts just like a toner, except that it’s made with the three magic ingredients of Rose of Jericho, Lychee and Watermelon complexes. The watermelon extract in it helps to trigger collagen production, for soft and supple skin. There are a couple of ways to reward your skin an extra shot of pamper with it — try the Korean 7-step toner trick, where you pat on toner into your skin seven times (yup, you read that right), or leave the toner in the fridge a couple of hours before use for an extra cooling sensation on the skin.
Philosophy Melon Daiquiri Shampoo / Bath & Shower Gel
$41.95, available here.
The time spent in the bath should be one that’s sacred… which is probably why people spend good money on luxurious body foams. This head-to-toe formula by Philosophy combines watermelon essence with other fruity goodness for a shower gel that can be used on your hair and body for intense cleansing and hydration. Plus, you get to step out of the shower with a faint sweet scent of watermelon lingering all day.
Sephora Collection Whipped Cream Body Moisturiser
$33, available at Sephora and sephora.sg.
We’ve learnt to never underestimate Sephora’s in-house products, because they do have a pretty decent track record for offering some of the most reasonably priced products that actually perform. Their cream body moisturiser comes with a airy, mousse-y texture because of its whipped nature, and get absorbed into the skin quick, leaving a satiny soft finish. The watermelon extract in it provides the necessary moisture needed for your skin, too.
Kocostar Watermelon Slice Mask Sheet
$6, available at Sephora and sephora.sg.
You can have on actual slices of cucumber, lemon and tomato all over your face, but have you once seen anyone pile watermelon slices on their skin? Chances are, no. The next best alternative is probably to use watermelon-infused mask sheets, but don’t skip out on the fun with the plain ol’ single white ones. Try the Kocostar masks, where you literally get to paste on sheet masks that come decorated as watermelon slices all over your face. Read more about it here.
