Purple seems like the lip colour that people tend to shun away from — dare we say, even more so than a vampy burgundy lip. Come to think of it, it’s quite normal actually; we tend to get the pinks and reds, and even the oranges right — but when it comes to purple… let’s just say things don’t always turn out happy like in Barney’s cartoon. But it’s really such a shame, since when worn correctly, purple lips can indeed look pretty darn edgy and chic.

Match Your Shade Of Purple To Your Skin Tone
Folks with warmer skin tones might want to consider purples with a yellower base, with shades that lean more towards the magenta side, like the Barney purple. As for the ones with cooler skin tones, a more blue-based hue is likely to complement the reddish-purples undertones of your skin. Take your time with this — swatch and compare colours before committing to your very own purple lipstick.
Minimal Makeup
For such a strong, unconventional lip colour to be the star feature of your makeup, it’s best to keep the rest of your face clean and simple. That means there’s no need to overdo the eye makeup — a simple (graphic) eyeliner will work — or if you absolutely need eyeshadow on your lids, go for a muted, light shade of taupe. A sheer flush of blush will work as well, and keep highlight to one that’s natural and subtle.
