Why These Affordable Liquid Foundations Have a Ridiculously Long Waiting List

There are a few things we’d wait patiently in line for, and yes, most of them may be food-related. We’ve all felt that sense of delayed gratification after being stuck in an endless winding queue for hours, ultimately getting what we waited on for aeons. This is why we can totally imagine the ecstasy those tens of thousands of people must feel when The Ordinary’s liquid foundations come back in stock.

If you’re unfamiliar with The Ordinary, don’t worry – I was too, until my homegirl Asia Jackson uploaded a first impressions video on their Serum Foundation recently, raving about how awesome it is. Based on that, the water-like formula seems super easy to blend out, and a little goes a long way to get that semi-matte finish, so it’s really no surprise to find out that this has become a real hit amongst those who have dry and oily or combination skin. True to its name, its lightweight texture also creates that lit-from-within glow – perfect for those on board the “no-makeup makeup” bandwagon. They seem to have upped the price to US$10.90 (S$15) from its previous US$6 (S$8), which honestly, is still dirt-cheap when it comes down to its quality.

Under the care of Deciem, the brand’s parent company, The Ordinary delivers potent active ingredients and medical-grade formulas at absurdly low prices, which is why I felt a little sceptical about this label. Since makeup artists and the beauty obsessed have already given The Ordinary and huge stamp of approval, however, the foundation sure look as promising as they’re hyped up to be. If a heavier coverage is needed, the brand also has its Coverage Foundation, which is a creamier alternative that comes with greater pigment, the same lightweight feel, and a more matte finish – best for those with combination to oily skin types. This one priced slightly higher compared to the Serum Foundation at US$11.90 (S$17) – likewise, it’s unbelievably affordable for what it promises to do.
Both foundations are available in 21 shades, which is really impressive since they took note of common undertones like yellow, pink, neutral, and even red. Hopefully, they’ll be expanding their shade range to accommodate darker skin tones too, because evidently, the brand’s already doing something right with their products.
The Ordinary Serum Foundation and Coverage Foundation, $15 and $17 respectively. Available (soon please, we’re dying to try them out) from theordinary.com.
