Instagram can be quite overwhelming, especially when you see accounts with perfectly curated feeds, and people who obsess over the number of likes and followers they have. But Instagram can also be an eye-opener when you follow people that share their interests and knowledge to the community – and there are a ton of accounts out there, you just got to explore. Here are 10 Instagram accounts we found to be unexpectedly interesting; accounts that will probably make you stalk their feed till no end:
1. @mnmllymnml
Andrew Kim is the lead designer at Tesla Inc and right off the bat, you can tell his feed is very design-centric, maintaining a clean and minimalist theme. He and his wife own a blog in which they share futuristic design ideas of their own and write about experiences that left a strong impression on them. It is not a blog where they talk about what’s trending but really a creative space for them to explore their imagination. An example of a blog post they did was centered around the idea of an inconvenience store with only an inventory of eleven items. They even made a prototype of how it would look like. If you are into design and gaining insights on quirky ideas, definitely check out his Instagram account and blog.
2. @matiasprado
Matias Prado does illustrations of cute tiny human beings dressed in all sorts of colourful clothing and hats. It looks similar to Where’s Wally, just that you don’t have to strain your eyes looking for a striped-shirt boy. His illustrations were also seen on sneakers, like the Nike Air Force 1, and on bags too. He also has his own website where you can see more of his illustrations and buy some of his works.

If you are someone who loves watching any baking-related shows, you would’ve heard of the Great British Bake Off series. And if you are a fan of the series, you will know that the show always features illustrations that bring all the contestants’ ideas to life. Behind all the beautiful and intricately detailed drawings is none other than Tom Hovey. On his Instagram account, you will see all his illustrations of food, mainly cakes, that looks just as mouth-watering as the real deal.
4. @hernalex_art
Alex uploads posts of his textile works that revolve around navigating through multiple identities, and cultural and gender expectations. His works usually feature silhouettes of the human body that’s made with contrasting fabrics while others are made of layers of textile. But behind each of his works lies a profound meaning that explores many different topics.
5. @hansulrichobrist
Hans Ulrich Obrist of the Serpentine Gallery in London is one of the world’s leading art curators. And so it comes as no surprise that his Instagram account is a curation of something really unique – handwritings of different people. While meeting with all sorts of creatives, ranging from artists, architects, writers, and even Yoko Ono and Kanye West, Hans Ulrich will have them handwrite something, which he will share with his followers. Scrolling through his feed, you will be intrigued by all the different handwritings and perhaps start appreciating writing again.

Recently featured on a previous post on nipple nails, Mei Kawajiri’s nailart always has something extra. Based in New York City, Kawajiri has created nails that feature industrial barbell piercings and heavily embellished ones which will make one wonder, how do you do things with those nails? But if it’s a creative space for her to express herself, why not?
7. @ccminifactory
This account is for the miniature fans out there. C+C Mini Factory takes pictures of miniatures placed in different backdrops and otherworldly environments and they share them on their Instagram account. Behind the quirky creations are Brooklyn-based artists Chelsea Cates and Quinn Corbin. You might even have seen their works without realising it, since they have collaborated with big brands like Starbucks and Mozilla Firefox.
8. @cheesecurlsofinstagram
Before popping a Cheetos into your mouth, take a look at it and see if it resembles anything. The creator behind this account has found Cheetos to resemble many things and even came up with background stories to boot. He also made sure none of the Cheetos nor the resulting photos were modified in any way. Taking story-telling to a different level, huh?
9. @davidchang
You’ve heard of the famed Momofuku Milk Bar and all the rave reviews about it. Well, the owner’s Instagram account won’t disappoint either. David Chang’s feed is filled with pictures of food, mostly succulent meats that’s glistening in oil, and we just wish he opened a store in Singapore. His account is definitely not recommended for those who are on a diet.

And for people who love the other succulent, a.k.a plants, we did not forget about you. Janneke Luursema is a photographer and plant enthusiast based in Amsterdam and you can get major plant inspo from her account. Just scroll through her feed and you’ll know what we mean.
