IKEA Is A Genius For Coming Up With The Easy Recipe Series Cookbook

Can’t cook to save your own life? IKEA’s Easy Recipe Series cookbook is here to save the day. Yeap, everyone’s favourite furniture store is actually doing that. We think it’s an idea that should’ve long existed. Just think about it. IKEA’s known for their do-it-yourself mantra and their instantly recognisable, maybe not-so-easy to follow manuals that comes with the furniture. We also know that their food department isn’t lacking behind: their glorious meatballs and fried chicken wings? Uh-huh. So we know they have a thing or two when it comes to whipping up something delish. Combine these two aspects and you get the Cook This Page illustrated recipes.

The foolproof recipes (which includes garlic shrimp, baked lemon salmon and raspberry rhubarb dessert) come as part of an IKEA Kitchen event in Canada, in partnership with Toronto-based marketing company, Leo Burnett. What’s interesting about the cookbook series is that the recipes are not presented in your usual long ambiguous text of instructions that really does not make cooking any more fun. Instead, each ingredient is drawn to scale on a parchment paper with edible ink that resembles a paint by numbers colouring book, except you do it with food! After laying out all the necessary ingredients, IKEA Canada made it seem really easy in their video, in which they simply wrap everything up and throw it in the oven. Well, we are not sure if cooking could be THAT simple (don’t you have to mix everything to get them to marinate evenly?) but it’s probably THAT simple because the end result looks amazing.

This innovative recipe cookbook is great for beginner cooks to try their hands at cooking and actually come up with something legit to eat. It’s also a great hands-on activity for parents to try out with their kids, and the best part? You can eat off the tray if you want. There’s really not much dishes involved here which is perfect for people who live alone and really can’t be bothered with the dishes.

Unfortunately, the Easy Recipe Series cookbook seemed to be a limited-time promotion offered only at IKEA Canada but since the concept received positive response (come on, it’s a genius idea), hopefully IKEA will roll it out worldwide so that everybody can be their own chef. We can’t wait!
