We’ve seen a a plethora of brands collaborating with Vans to take on the classic slip-on sneakers, but we’ve never quite seen something as artistic and avant-garde as this latest collaboration with Marc Jacobs. As part of Vans’ latest stunning project, 17 artists from around the world each got to put their own unique twist on a pair of Marc Jacobs x Vans sneakers. And they absolutely crushed it.
Some of our favourites include designs by RuPaul’s Drag Race alumnus, Milk, who covered the plain white canvas shoe with coloured push pins (not exactly the safest pair to walk in but they are not meant for wearing anyway) that represents all the places he wishes to travel to. Another pair that we would love to cop are the ones designed by Sarah Tanno, who is the personal makeup artist for Lady Gaga and also a Marc Beauty global beauty ambassador. In fact, her version of the shoes are created using materials found in her makeup kit, to achieve these mixed media pair of sneaks! Talk about resourcefulness!
However, only the original design – a white slip-on with black lines across the shoe, illustrated by artist Julie Verhoeven, will be available for purchase though in very limited quantities, 125 to be exact. Each pair comes with a set of Marc Jacobs x Sharpie pens to further customise the shoes.
Sadly, they will only be stocked in stores located at New York City and Japan on 16 June 2017. There’s currently an online giveaway going on to, where there are 10 pairs up for grabs, though you have to be a legal U.S. resident to be eligible. Damn it! So unless you are travelling to either country, it looks like you’ve just gotta suck it up and marvel at them online. Here you go:
