What’s better than good food? Why, of course it’s good food that’s free! But unfortunately, there’s no such thing in this world as a free meal. There is however, the Singapore Food Festival’s upcoming 50 Cents Fest – a heritage event that’ll be selling all sorts of local dishes for the eye-opening price of 50¢ each.
Yes, that’s right. You read correctly. Each dish costs 50 freaking cents each (with higher denominations for bigger portions). But if you think that is still too good to be true, well, let us tell you that it’s not. The event, which is happening from 29 to 30 July, will feature an exhilarating range of nostalgic dishes that’ll satisfy your every foodie desire.
Want to munch on Char Kway Teow? No problem. Got a craving for Oyster Omelette? The 50 Cents Fest has got you covered. But more than just providing good and cheap food, the event is actually a retro throwback to the glory days of 80’s Singapore, and will feature a variety of classics from that era in a lively bazaar setting.

For instance, you’ll be able to savour old school dishes like the UFO (Fried Oyster Cake), Orh Nee, Hokkien Rickshaw Noodle, Hakka Abacus Seed, Teochew Ah Balling, and Kong Bak Pau, while there’ll also be other local favourites up for grabs like Laksa, Mee Goreng, Satay, Chicken Biryani, and Salted Egg Yolk Crab.
What’s cooler though is that the décor for the festival will be set up in an 80’s style fashion, with a myriad of exciting games and performances to catch. Whatever the case may be; if you’ve got a classic case of the munchies, or you’d just simply like to eat your weekend away, this is one event not to be missed!
