Since its first ever release in 2015, the adidas NMD sneakers have indeed come a very long way. The OG black silhouette with red and blue shanks spun a whole slew of iterations, leaving fans spoilt for choice and…perhaps a burnt hole in the wallet. After having gained unprecedented popularity amongst sneaker heads and comfortably nestled at the top of the sneaker arena, adidas is expanding its NMD offerings to now include apparel.
Just like how the nomads (N-M-Ds by the way) are made for a travelling lifestyle, you can expect the apparel line to stick with the concept of constructing pieces that are able to serve a useful purpose yet comfortable enough for the ones who travel light. The apparels are created with modern fabrics to achieve a good balance between functionality and fashion-forward designs, while still maintaining its streetwear aura.
The outcome is a range of contemporary utilitarian items which include track jackets with the NMD logo tape down the sleeves, lightweight insulated shorts and a parka that can be transformed into a bag when not in use. The ladies range features simple jersey dresses made of soft ribbed fabric, reversible silhouettes and an allover dot pattern jacket that resembles hand painted brushstrokes. Its clear the garments are carefully thought out just by looking at the materials chosen and the functionality they provide, such as the nylon weave on the jacket to keep the wind out, heat transfer tapes and the very important zips and pockets. And since a nomad travels from place to place, it is apt that some of the NMD logo tapes reads “The brand with the 3-Stripes” in multiple languages.
Every traveller will require a heavy-duty bag that is lightweight enough to bring around and Adidas has got that covered as well. Another branch of the NMD apparel is the travel accessories that are a part of its 2017 Fall/Winter collection. It includes rectangular backpacks with several compartments, a luggage and a carryall bag, all of which can be carried multiple ways. There are also key chains, a cap and different sizes of waist pouches to sum up the collection.
The NMD apparel line might not be as highly anticipated or hyped about, but it is a good option to turn to when looking for functional and versatile streetwear pieces for all the wanderers at heart.
The NMD women’s and men’s collection are available online now while the travel accessories will be made available from 7 July 2017.
