From glitter brows, to disco boobs and even glitter bombing the vaginas, we thought we ran out of other random body parts you could possibly “glitter-ise” anymore. But guess what, the internet never fails to find its way to catch us by surprise and this time, glitter tongues are the ones trending on Instagram right now. It is literally what it is – dipping your tongue in glitter just like how PUMA dipped their Suede Platform silhouettes in the exact same sparkly goodness. What we’re really trying to say is glitter on shoes are pretty, but on the tongue? Really?
To be fair, the trend started off when makeup artist Jacinta Vukovic accidentally got some glitter on her tongue while she was trying to create a metallic lip look. She then decided to “embrace it and make it the main focus”. And since then, the glitter tongue trend took off on Instagram (because anything that glitters will surely get you the likes, right?)
But turns out, not all that glitters is gold. Several sources have reported that those micro plastics are probably toxic and also, not environmentally-friendly as well. While consuming a small amount by accident won’t do much harm, why would anyone want to go through the hassle of trying hard not to swallow down your own saliva? And dealing with glitter is always a mess. We can’t imagine how long it will take just to fully scrub them out.
If you would like to play on the trend however, you can always opt for edible glitters or vegan ones from Lit Cosmetics. Though the trend is a little excessive, over-the-top, and completely unnecessary, they do make for a fun look when attending a music festival, we guess…
