Huawei Launches Gorgeous Mate 10 in Singapore: Pre-Orders Available Now

When it comes to must-cop smartphones, the choices are clear. The iPhone X will always be desired. The same goes for the Google Pixel XL and Samsung Galaxy Note 8. Those gadgets are top-drawer stuff – the cream of the crop if you will. However, Huawei’s Mate 10 series may very well soon join that elusive category.

Unveiled by the Chinese tech giant in Munich, Germany on Monday (Oct 16), the Mate 10 is now available for pre-order in Singapore from Oct 17 to 23 on Lazada and Huawei Concept Stores with a retail price of $888. That excludes the premium Mate 10 Pro and Porsche Design Mate 10 models, which will be unveiled on Oct 26.

But what’s so great about the Mate 10? Well, Huawei claims that it’s not just a smartphone, but an “intelligent device” with a brand new chipset that the company says can beat Apple or Samsung. That’s a big claim, although if the chipset delivers, it could be a huge game-changer in the smartphone industry.

Called the Kirin 970, Huawei calls the chipset the world’s first AI processor for smartphones with a dedicated Neural-Network Processing Unit (NPU), which combines classic computing, graphics, image, and digital signal processing power that traditionally require separate chips.
In other words, the Kirin 970 is less of a computer, and more like a “working human brain” (cue the emphasis on AI). Huawei also claims that the chipset will preserve battery life on phones by up to 50%, as well as offer faster performance.

And of course, the Leica-branded dual cameras have returned for the Mate 10 series, rolling together 12-megapixel RGB and 20-megapixel monochrome sensors, optical image stabilization, an aperture of f/1.6, and AI-powered zoom. That’ll allow you to snap some pretty neat photos, as well as produce the fake “bokeh” effect.
Other cool features include a new and improved 4000mAh battery that can charge from 1% to 58% in 30 minutes, and an EMUI desktop; which allows users to plug their phones into any screen in order to use it as a desktop. In terms of design, the Mate 10 sports a 5.9-inch LCD screen that’s housed in a slick 3D glass body.
If you’re interested in scoring the Huawei Mate 10, it will be available in two colours, Mocha Brown and Black, and is now available for pre-order at lazada.sg.
