The family-run restaurant, not to be confused with celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck, is owned by Wolfgang Zwiener, who was the former headwaiter at legendary Brookyln steakhouse Peter Luger for 40 years. And now, he brings his decades of meat experience to our shores, along with his son Peter, a former investment banker.

But what’s so special about Wolfgang’s Steakhouse? After all, there’s no shortage of great steak restaurants in Singapore. Well, Zwiener’s restaurant specialises in prime USDA Black Angus meat, which is dry aged in a proprietary designed aging room for 28 days.

Dry aging is a process whereby enzymes in the meat break down muscle tissue, resulting in improved flavour and texture. This gives the beef a distinct “nutty” flavour. At Wolfgang’s, the meat will be carved before heating on a grill boiler to bring out its best qualities, like juiciness and succulence.
We had a behind-the-scenes experience of how Wolfgang’s Steakhouse conducts its operations, heading into the kitchen to check out the steak preparation process.

Almost done…

Voila, the final product.

After a few rounds of chucking the freshly cooked Porterhouse cut in our mouths (which is the restaurant’s best seller by the way), it became apparent that we were hooked on the meat’s flavour.
Tender, juicy, melt-in-your-mouth, it’s difficult to find superlatives for such quality. To be fair, the meat had to be good because dining here isn’t going to come cheap.

The lamb chops ($99 for 18 ounces) are pretty good too

The cheapest steak at Wolfgang’s is a Prime Petit Filet Mignon which will set you back $70, while a New York Sirloin costs $99, and a Prime Filet Mignon is priced at $118. Diners can also expect to fork out a minimum of $185 for the Porterhouse Steak (serving for two).
This joint won’t be your regular spot unless you’re loaded of course, but it is a great place to celebrate a special occasion, or to bring your significant other on a fancy date. You’ll eat well and be happy. And that should more than enough to make up for the massive hole that’s burnt in your wallet.
Wolfgang’s Steakhouse is located at 1 Nanson Road, #02-01, Intercontinental Singapore Robertson Quay. Opening Hours: Open Daily – 11.30am to 11.30pm. Tel: 6887 5885
