Trends may breeze through the beauty industry as quickly as we go through a pack of Calbee potato chips (girl, we’re talking mere minutes), but there are a handful of beauty items that have stood the test of time and have evolved into cult classics we simply can’t do without. One major caveat, though. They’re often loaded with chemicals and synthetic ingredients that may seem magical when you swipe them on, but they’ll actually do you more harm than good in the long run.
Thanks to recent green innovations, however, plenty of clean and natural beauty products have risen in the ranks, outperforming their mainstream counterparts. Just look at RMS Beauty’s Concealer – it’s already joined the pantheon of all-time greats, so it’s all about making the decision to switch. Gone are the days where we have to sacrifice performance in order to trade in for a non-toxic option, which is why we’re taking a closer look at some of our beloved cult items today to find their perfect green beauty matches. It’s about time we got acquainted with our new essentials.
Bourjois Healthy Mix Anti-Fatigue Foundation –> 100 Percent Pure Super Fruits Healthy Foundation
They’re both branded “healthy” on their bottles, but one of them is a straight-up liar. One glance at Bourjois’ ingredient list and you’ll spot plenty of chemicals, drying alcohol and artificial fragrance, all of which are not recommended for sensitive skin types. The 100 Percent Pure Foundation, on the other hand, has none of those. Instead, it’s made with an aloe base and a blend of fruit pigments, so you’ll get the same radiant glow without the unnecessary nasties.
100 Percent Pure Super Fruits Healthy Foundation, $71.50. Available from budcosmetics.com and 100percentpure.com.sg.
IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream –> Suntegrity 5-In-1 Natural Moisturizing Tinted Face Sunscreen
Yup, you’ve heard every beauty blogger rave about the IT Cosmetics CC Cream, but Suntegrity’s Tinted Sunscreen is an incredibly close match. It gives the same sheer coverage and works as a primer to smooth out your skin’s texture, except it doesn’t contain any synthetic chemicals or dyes. There’s balancing jojoba and sunflower seed oils to keep your skin hydrated throughout the day, while green tea and cucumber extracts work to soothe irritated complexions, giving you a smooth, even canvas. “No-makeup” makeup look, here we come.
Suntegrity 5-In-1 Tinted Sunscreen, $72. Available from puretincture.com.
NARS Orgasm Blush –> Kjaer Weis Cream Blush in Blossoming
NARS always has great non-comedogenic options for the acne-prone, but it’s a real shame that it’s no longer a cruelty-free beauty brand. At this point, if you’re thinking of replacing that holy grail Orgasm Blush, consider Kjaer Weis’ Cream Blush. Loaded with pure, organic ingredients, this rose-tinged blush makes a replacement so perfect, you’ll wonder where it’s been all your life. And when it’s housed in such a sleek case, it’s rather hard to resist.
Kjaer Weis Cream Blush in Blossoming, $56. Available from net-a-porter.com.
Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara –> Juice Beauty Phyto-Pigments Ultra-Natural Mascara
Looking for a good mascara is enough of an ordeal, but searching for a good natural mascara? Some might say it’s impossible. We gotta hand it to Gwyneth Paltrow, though. Juice Beauty’s Phyto-Pigments Ultra-Natural Mascara popped up on our radar recently thanks to her and we haven’t looked back since. Its non-drying formula leaves every lash clump-free and that spiral wand deposits the right amount of product for a fuller curl.
Juice Beauty Phyto-Pigments Ultra-Natural Mascara, $37. Available from budcosmetics.com.
M.A.C Ruby Woo Lipstick –> Kosas Lipstick in Electra
Here’s a lipstick that’s been on everyone’s lips: M.A.C’s Ruby Woo, the quintessential red hue that truly flatters every skin tone. If you’re sick of accidentally ingesting chemicals, though, you may want to switch to Kosas. The shade Electra is an incredibly wearable red that bears the same blue tone as M.A.C’s Ruby Woo, but it’s made with mango and shea butters to condition and protect, and it even has sweet orange oil that smells oh-so energising.
Kosas Lipstick in Electra, US$28. Available from needsupply.com.
