It sounds quite impossible doesn’t it — a high coverage foundation that’s still lightweight, but we’re sure one exists somewhere in the vast beauty universe, somewhere, somehow… we just didn’t expect it to be sitting right in front of us. That’s how KATE Tokyo’s ‘The Base Zero’ line-up is. The new base makeup series by the Japanese brand recognises that while lightweight, delicate coverage seems to be the trend these days, it isn’t really that suitable for everyone; what if your skin’s less-than-flawless to begin with, or you’re going through a breakout? How then do you expect good, reliable coverage that isn’t disappointingly sheer?
Seriously, there’s nothing to be ashamed about. Rather than pile on the foundation or concealer, there is a way out — base makeup that provides good coverage, while still remaining lightweight enough that you won’t have to live with that uncomfortable heavy feeling all day. Within ‘The Base Zero’ line up, there are three hero products: the KATE Secret Skin CC Base Zero, a CC base, the KATE Secret Skin Maker Zero Powder, a tight-fitting, fragrance-free powder that has advanced oil-control properties, as well as the KATE Secret Skin Maker Zero Liquid. It’s the last one that we want to talk about, simply because it makes our skin look so good.
Basically, the liquid foundation does just what you want it to do — it hides our uneven pores for a beautiful, flawless base with just enough coverage, even from the first stroke. You won’t have to layer your foundation multiple times, nor deal with a horrible cakey mess at the end of the day. How it does that though, is by way of a smooth formula that you first “place” generously onto your skin, and then “spread” out, with just a light touch, in order to cover your entire face and neck. The skin-fit polymers present in the formula ensure that the foundation spreads out smoothly and easily while maintaining an even coverage, until the product’s nicely blended into your skin.
Then, there’s another piece of technology you might not even notice: how carefully KATE Tokyo considers the particular shades of their foundations. An in-house survey of those in their late teens to 23 year olds reveals that plenty of young customers are worried about having a poor complexion, above the other skin concerns of breakouts, dull pores, or dry skin. Therefore, the brand set out with them in mind, to create a finish that gives you that effortless glowy look. The new-and-improved foundation shades are also created with more red pigments that compensate for the yellow undertones in most Asian skin types with the aim of achieving a brighter-looking complexion.
