Much like ripe fruit, a fashionable wardrobe always has an expiration date and therefore needs to be refurbished every few months. That’s where Uniqlo’s such a great intervenor, bridging classicism with modernity. It’s functional style that everyone can buy into. Beyond that, its intellectually handpicked design partners, from Jil Sander to JW Anderson, somehow captures an essence of quiet desirability that keeps us going back season after season. Now a biannual line, we’ve just caught a glimpse of the Uniqlo U SS18 collection, a bricolage of nature incorporating muted earth tones to colour the familiar boxy t-shirts and wide-leg jeans we associate the brand with.
Uniqlo U is helmed by Christopher Lemaire, who in his own fashion-week shown label Lemaire likewise champions many of the ideals held by Uniqlo. Not only is nature a great visual theme to build off in relation to Lemaire’s design ethos, it’s also a great colour palette mixing and matching. The main release date for Uniqlo U SS18 is 26 January 2018, but more items will be launched in subsequent phases in March and April next year. At first glance we’re getting bowling shirts and Baywatch-style swimwear, a blast into the past we’re willing to take.
Here’re just some of the looks we’ll be keeping our eyes on… does getting one piece in every colour sound too indulgent?
