We all love a classic holiday makeup look, whether it’s metallic eyeshadows and glitter liners to this year’s more trending glossy lids or the very in-vogue yellow/gold eyeshadow — but we also love a holiday look that’s different. Wildly so. Because ’tis the season for all the parties, and you’ll definitely want to stand out. Well, here you go then: the non-basic festive beauty trends that aim to be as outrageous as possible, ranked from “safe” to completely “out there” (oh, you’ll see).
1. Candy Cane Eyeliner
What is it: Consider this the new-and-improved holiday version of the classic cat eye flick. Give the old boring black a swirl of magic by playing with red and white stripes that mimic the colours of a candy cane. Cute and totally doable, we think — provided you’ve got steady hands and are familiar with winging your eyeliner (we mean the skill of actually achieving that). You’ll need a base created using white eyeliner, then layer over in stripes with matte red lipstick that you apply with precision using a brush. Top if off with gold eyeshadow, a glitter cut crease or whatever you like to up the intensity. Either way, your eyes will now be in mint condition.
Outrageous Level: Still alright — Jingle Bell Rock this look already! Do us a favour and pair it with your favourite shade of red lippie.
2. Christmas Tree Brows
What is it: You’ll be the talk of the parties with this look on, one that kinda reminds us of the feather brow trend, except this time your arches are lined with little specks of glimmering ornaments. Similar to the feathered look, you’ll have to separate your lashes down the middle with clear brow gel that’ll also hold them in place. Then, use eyelash glue (safe!) to attach whatever craft supplies you have left over from your gift wrapping onto your face, all for this festive look.
Outrageous Level: You’ll wanna Deck The Halls if you’ve got plenty of time to spare.
3. Festive Embellished Eyes
What is it: This one’s a lot more complicated — but don’t be fooled, you can create something that’s easily achievable too. The most outrageous — and creative — ones include bedazzling the entire area and sticking on embellishments or dusting with gold, though we suppose if you’re trying to emulate it, the metallic eyeliner and green-and-red eyeshadows would be just as impressive. If not, simpler versions include drawing Christmas lights that go wrapped around your brow, which you can do with a colourful eyeshadow palette and very steady eyeliner.
Oh and if you need a quick tutorial, here goes:
Outrageous Level: It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas, and you’ll want it to look that way too! If you’re dedicated enough…
4. Christmas Nose Hair Extensions
What is it: We’ve already talked about how ridiculous nose hair extensions look, but we certainly weren’t prepared for this! This one takes the deliberately ugly trend to a whole new level and looks rather uncomfortable actually, but this is the season to go all out isn’t it? We don’t exactly know where one can get these miniature-sized trees though we suppose your mom won’t notice if you snip the ends of the boughs from the one you have at home — and then stuff it up your nose. You’ll be smelling pine fresh all day.
Outrageous Level: O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree… maybe the poor things should be left alone?
5. Christmas Boob
What is it: We saved the best for last! This will surely get you on the naughty list this year; an arguably more sexy take on the annual ugly Christmas sweater trend, this time crazy netizens are parading something more scandalous by flashing (through the snow) one entire boob peeking out through a cut-out in said sweater. Just one because, you know, to keep it classy and all that. The current trend includes wrapping the peekaboo area in tinsel and fashioning it into a red-nosed Rudolph, but feel free to do a Christmas tree/cone bra reference if you’d like.
Outrageous Level: Ho Ho Ho…ld on, this is actually pretty hilarious — for those with a sense of daring humour and an ironic take on the “O Holy Night” type of revelry.
