When Our Favourite Designers Take Hobo Bags To The Next Level

This morning, we woke up to a buzzing only audible from many incoming phone messages at once. Luxury fashion house Balenciaga just released three more tote bags inspired by wet markets, and we’re can’t decide if this is just a case of April’s fool in December or a genius exemplification of art imitating life.

It’s safe to say Balenciaga’s pioneered the new aesthetic go-to that’s teetering on ugly but inevitably desirable, and these shoppers definitely fit into that brand visual. Much like Golden Goose Deluxe Brand sneakers, Gucci’s latest Rhyton and Loewe’s toast graphic tees use class irony to create beautiful pieces we all want to wear, Balenciaga’s take on streetwear (like, back alley kind of street) is rather thought-provoking. While many have questioned its authenticity since it’s clearly taking inspiration from a group of people who’d perhaps never buy into the brand, we still can appreciate these bags singularly.
Here’re some of the more outrageous iterations of shopping bags from some our favourite designer labels we’ve seen so far:
