Most Affordable Cars in Singapore that Doesn't Require You Selling a Kidney

Buying a car in Singapore is very expensive. Excluding the price of the car itself, you’ve got to consider things like the Certificate of Entitlement (COE), Additional Registration Fee (ARF), Excise Duty, GST, and the Vehicular Emission Scheme (VES). And don’t even get us started on freaking patrol.
But is being a car owner here really that out of reach? Well, if you’re on your first paycheck and you’re dreaming of that Ferrari or Lambo, you’ve got a long way to go, kiddo.
But surprise, surprise; there are “affordable” options to go for, although cheap is a relative term and you’ll still be breaking the banking to buy them. Hey, at least your internal organs aren’t on the black market, right? Here are the four “cheapest” cars models you can find:

Kia Cerato K3 1.6 (A) – $79,999

It’s red. It’s sleek. And most importantly, it’s cheap. Well, cheap-ish at least. The Kia Cerato K3 is one of those cars that’ll definitely give you more bang for your buck. And right now, the car’s price is $79,999. For a good and reliable vehicle, that’s quite the steal (in Singapore terms). Only problem is that it doesn’t have certain features like a keyless engine start, auto headlights, and electrical retractable side mirrors.

Mitsubishi Attrage 1.2 (A) – $69,999

The Mitsubishi won’t be scoring many points in the style department, but it’s certainly good at the simple stuff. For instance, it has a decent 0-100km/h pick-up, while it’s comfortable, and comes with a keyless engine start and electrical retractable side mirrors, edging the Kia Cerato in that aspect. Plus, Mitsubishi is a well-respected brand, so not much that can go wrong here.

Perodua Axia 1.0 (A) – $66,800

If you don’t care about anything other than price alone, the Perodua Axia is the vehicle for you. Road tax is cheaper because of its smaller engine capacity, while fuel efficiency is pretty decent, and over a 10-year period, you won’t be losing much cash. However, there are plenty of other better-equipped and stylish cars, so think of this as the very bland Kopi-O to your Starbucks.

Chery J3 Coupe 1.6 (M) – POA (approximately $75,000)

The only manual car on this list, the Chery J3 Coupe is a far cry from its Chery QQ cousin. In terms of looks, that is. With a sporty “European” style design, this is one chic vehicle. But everything else is more or less average. There are no special features, and the 15-second 0-1000km/h pick-up will hardly set pulses racing. As they say, you get what you pay for.
