It’s Vesak Day and since it’s a wonderful day of rest, I decided to just lie in bed and watch stuff. There are some pretty incredible new music videos and tv shows I’ve been dying to catch up on. Check these out…
JOHN MAYER “NEW LIGHT” — new music video
Last Friday, John Mayer released a new music video for his song, “New Light”. It’s HILARIOUS. If there’s one thing to watch this week, it’s this. Maybe you won’t find it funny, so let me break down my favourite three parts:
This part where two random guys are dancing on the beach. And there’s John also doing his thang.
This part which looks like a stock image. Here’s John in love with the telemarketer.
And throughout the video, his three singing heads in the clouds. Green screen at its best!
Watch !!!
TAKE TWO “IN YOUR ARMS” — music video
I kept hearing this song on the radio. After a while, it grew on me and I Shazamed it to find out who the artist was. And oh hey! They’re from Singapore! Wow! I haven’t heard such a well-composed “local” song since Concave Scream’s “Driven” in 1995. I only wish Take Two had the budget and support of STB to produce a video the likes of anything from Charlie Puth or Dua Lipa. With a song like this, their 77k views could well be 77m views. Oh well; at least they portrayed nice scenes of Singapore for 77k people out there to see.
THE HANDMAID’S TALE SEASON 2
Anyone who’s read the original books by Margaret Atwood, or seen Season 1 of the show, will be anticipating this current second season that started airing end of last month. To watch it, you need an account with Hulu (and a US-based credit card to sign up with).
The story is about a dystopian society with a government who has lost their marbles, and are enslaving girls who can reproduce — because apparently children are really hard to make in this new world. If you haven’t even started season 1, you’re missing out. It’s very interesting. Start now.
ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT SEASON 5
On the other end of the TV spectrum from The Handmaid’s Tale, is Arrested Development; a cult comedy series about a dysfunctional family. Season five is supposed to air on Netflix today (29th May), but I can’t find it anywhere on the site. I suspect it’s only for the US market. Anyway, I’ve emailed Netflix’s PR about this and will update this space when I hear back from them.
In the meantime, watch reruns! The first two seasons are not just hilarious, but every episode is so cleverly written. Sometimes I feel like making the whole NYLON office just stop work and sit in the lounge to watch Arrested Development together. Because, COME ON!!
