December 2018 was the month of flu; a lot of people fell sick, and if you’re one of them — and you’ve been digging into your skincare and makeup while sick — it’s a good idea to clean everything that touched your face, or that your fingers stuck into (eg. jars of cream). If you’re looking for new items to refresh your beauty box, there are many exciting new launches — some already available on counters, others coming up soon. These are the ones I’ve tried and really really like.
DIOR FOREVER SKIN GLOW (SHADE 2N)
$85, AVAILABLE IN 8 SHADES AT ALL DIOR COUNTERS FROM FEB 2019
When you think liquid foundation, I believe what comes to mind are brands like NARS, M.A.C, Bobbi Brown, and even newer trendier brands like Fenty. Here’s an industry secret: Dior makes THE BEST foundations — at least in my opinion. I’ve even seen some of the professional makeup artists use Dior foundations during beauty advertorial shoots for other brands (sorry, I can’t say which!) Last year, I raved about Dior’s Backstage Face & Body Foundation — it performed better than any other liquid foundation I tried in 2018; so you can imagine my excitement to see new foundations from Dior launching early 2019.
This is the new Dior Forever Skin Glow liquid foundation. It’s straightforward: they call it “Forever” because it lasts forever (24-hour wear says the press release); for me, it lasted an entire work day without any greasy shine by the time I finished dinner and removed my makeup. Applying the product is a wonderful experience; it glides on like silk, evening out skin tone and texture, and settles into a satin finish with a natural glow.
I passed the various shades around the office and everyone who brought it home to try now swears by it. Globally, there are 67 shades available, but Singapore will stock just 8 of them. If you’re fortunate enough to fall within those 8 shades (most of us probably are), I highly recommend this as your first beauty purchase for 2019 — you won’t regret it. Oh, and by the way, there’s also a version with a matte finish.
OLAPLEX BOND MAINTENANCE SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER
$47 each, AVAILABLE at sephora.sg
I first discovered Olaplex when I tried their treatment service at Kim Robinson. The No.3 Hair Perfector subsequently went on to win “Editor’s Pick” at our 2018 beauty awards. This is the brand’s first shampoo and conditioner set and the shampoo, in particular, is like no other shampoo I’ve ever used in my life! It has a gooey, almost stringy consistency to it, and just a small amount turns into a huge lather that feels both fresh and moisturising. After a week of using both products, my hair felt and looked healthier — I’m not exaggerating — and I’m never going back to any other shampoo / conditioner set again. No surprise these products are currently sold out on Sephora.sg.
CHANEL ROUGE COCO FLASH
$52, AVAILABLE 14 MARCH AT CHANEL BEAUTY BOUTIQUES AND COUNTERS
CHANEL lipsticks are iconic. The current range includes the classic Rouge Coco, Rouge Coco Shine, Rouge Coco Stylo, Rouge Allure, Rouge Allure Velvet, and Rouge Allure Velvet Extrême. Coming up mid March, there’s a completely new line called Rouge Coco Flash; it’s most similar to the current Rouge Coco Shine (which will eventually get phased out when Flash takes over), but with a new formula and new packaging. The top of the case is see-through (a first for CHANEL!), which offers a glimpse of the lipstick colour within. I can already imagine the makeup artists applauding this change. I like that the product texture almost feels like a soft balm, but with solid velvety intense colour, and medium shine. I’m not a fan of extreme matte or extreme shine finishes, and this one feels just right. I can’t wait to get more colours.
THREE BABY & KIDS STARTER KIT
¥4,200 (excluding tax), AVAILABLE in japan
Last month, I spotted the baby range from Three Cosmetics on the brand’s Japanese website. The Singapore PR told me that these products will not be available in Singapore, so while in Tokyo earlier this month, I took the chance to visit the Three counter in Ginza, and bought the starter kit.
There are three items: an organic soap, an organic emulsion (moisturiser), and a sunscreen — all of them for face and body. And since these are formulated for babies, I would like to assume they can be used for anyone with sensitive skin. I particularly like the fragrance of the soap and emulsion, and the travel-friendly size of all three products. Let’s hope we’ll see this in Singapore soon.
