“Be bold. Be bright. Be beautiful.” These six words are what introduces Gucci’s debut beauty collection. Within this campaign, Gucci has gone with a rather unorthodox route. Typically, we’re used to seeing a flash of pearly whites surrounded by flawless, lined lips. Here, we see campaign model and Surfbort frontwoman Dani Miller‘s distinctive toothy grin, which completely goes against the grain. Unapologetically exhibiting her stained, imperfect smile, she is the absolute embodiment of bold, bright and beautiful. With this collection, the brand has implemented the concept of imperfection — embracing real, raw beauty in all its glory.
Alessandro Michele, Gucci’s Creative Director and the mastermind behind the collection, has curated a reserve of 58 shades across three collections — the satin Rouge à Lèvres Satin, the sheer Rouge à Lèvres Voile, and Baume à Lèvres, a smooth, translucent balm.
The brand has been teasing us with the idea of a cosmetic line since the launch of @GucciBeauty on Instagram in September last year. After months of anticipation (and many, many fragrances), they have finally launched their first set of colour cosmetics — presented with the flair of the 80’s. With inspiration from old-Hollywood, the collection oozes vintage glamour with a mixture of delicate floral prints, Art Deco influenced motifs and porcelain-esque turquoise lacquer across the 58 tubes. With a lightweight, moisturising formula, paired with the soft fragrance of fruit and violets, we can’t wait to try them out for ourselves.
Alongside Miller, models Achok Majak, Ellia Sophia Coggins and Mae Lapres exude playful confidence and frame the campaign with their eclectic faces. Shot by Martin Parr with art direction by Christopher Simmonds, viewers are brought into the #GucciBeautyNetwork and introduced to the new collection in the dreamy campaign video. The entire series revolves around the strong idea of embracing individuality and imperfection, which is celebrated through the candid photo spread, reminiscent of vintage magazines.
This is only the beginning of Gucci Beauty, and we’re already hooked.
The Gucci Beauty make-up collection is still being rolled out and is not currently available in Singapore. It is currently retailing at $38 USD online and in-store. For more information, visit gucci.com.
