A pair of truly stylish smart eyewear has proven to be elusive for the fashion conscious so far, but could these Gentle Monster – Huawei glasses finally be the ones we’re looking for? Seems so.
Where Google, Snapchat and even Bose have found little success with their smart wear, Huawei seems to have hit the sweet spot.
Google Glasses were high-tech but not exactly a fashion piece. Snapchat Spectacles had all the hype but the camera lens was just an eyesore. Bose smart glasses did look like a winner but large arms where the tech was embedded might throw some people off.
Gentle Monster’s smart glasses on the other hand, don’t look like one — smart eyewear that is. Huawei has partnered up with the cult Korean eyewear label that saw the likes of the Kardashians, Beyoncé and Gigi Hadid amongst its fans. Maybe there was some truth when Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei at an event in Paris earlier this year, joked that the glasses looked even better than regular ones.
Features
These smart glasses are designed to be a convenient piece of stylish tech wear. There are no heads-up display (HUD), camera or even buttons. Just like any Gentle Monster glasses, it’s all aesthetically pleasing frames, but smarter of course.
Dual speakers, AI noise reduction features and smart assistant are all built into the temples that are as thin as 0.45mm. Considering how large temples are on smartglasses, it’s a nice touch by Huawei.
With no buttons, you only have to double-tap on the temples to answer or end calls, play music or activate the voice assistant. There’s also a really convenient wireless charger in the form of the eyewear’s carrying case that holds a 2,200mAh charge. A full charge has 3.5 hours of music playback and 2.5 hours of call time.
Gentle Monster – Huawei Eyewear, from $472. Available in 2 sunglasses and 3 optical glasses from 6 September 2019 at all Gentle Monster flagship stores (MBS & ION Orchard).
