It’s been over two months since the start of the circuit breaker period, and it’s been just as long since I stepped into a hair salon. A lot of us have been using this period as an opportunity to grow our hair out, but absolutely no maintenance can be a little damaging. If you’re like me and you don’t trust yourself to cut your own hair, you may be facing dangerous territory — split ends.
Split ends are caused by a variety of factors, including heat, chemical treatments, rough brushing and external factors, like the weather, all of which can cause hair to become dry and brittle, with weakened hair bonds that are prone to breakage or fraying. Our hair should be treated with care — even shampooing your hair too roughly can cause damage — so it’s always worth it to invest in hair treatments, such as serums and hair oils that help to restore moisture to the hair and maintain its integrity.
Here are a few split end solutions you might want to try out.
Olaplex
The cult favourite has a solid reputation for rescuing dead hair — it literally repairs hair from the inside-out. While adding their shampoo and conditioner (No.4 and 5) to your routine is the most straightforward, the No.7 Bonding Oil is your best bet for intense treatment. The antioxidant rich formula is supported by fermented green tea oil, which helps to provide extra nourishment to the hair. Providing heat protection of up to 230°C, the ultra-concentrated reparative styling oil promises to repair, strengthen and hydrate the hair, and can be used on both damp and dry hair.
