LEGO has officially released the LEGO Monkie Kid Collection, inspired by the legendary Monkey King, from the 16th century tale Journey to the West. The first ever Chinese-inspired theme, the LEGO Monkie Kid is the toy brand’s take on the next chapter of the story, a tale that begins when he finds the Monkey King’s legendary staff, and becomes the chosen one.
The iconic Chinese fable is known by many not just in China, but also the rest of Asia — this latest LEGO play theme brings new life to the tale and provides a new common ground for people of all generations to build and play with together.
Asian representation in mass media is increasing, and LEGO’s Monkie Kid incorporates both visual and cultural aspects of Chinese traditions. A modern twist on an age old tale, the detailed Monkie Kid Collection is a result of two years of close collaboration with both children and parents in China, in order to ensure maximum authenticity.
8 exciting LEGO sets make up the LEGO Monkie Kid story — with over 60 colours and 3,600 different shapes, builders will be immersed in the world of Monkie Kid, as he and his friends go on their quest to stop the Demon Bull King and his army of Bull Clones from taking over the city. Alongside the collection comes an action-packed animated series and mini-movie — kids can look forward to watching Monkie Kid’s adventures unfold as they play along with their models at home.
