There comes a time as a fashion writer where you’ll begin to contemplate the purpose of reporting new bag launches amidst a pandemic. Are luxury brands continuing to release new launches to distract us from the seemingly endless wave of unpleasantness? Or is it an attempt to simply keep things going as we all try to remain optimistic, despite all that’s happening? Perhaps it’s all part of something we aren’t supposed to ever have answers to.
But if one thing’s for sure, then you’ll bet these latest bag launches are as pretty as they come. And we’ll want to get our hands on them once it’s no longer a moral issue for wanting to go shopping.
Chloé
Top Row: Chloé Darryl braided textured-leather shoulder bag ($2,091)
Bottom Row: Chloé Daria textured and smooth leather tote ($2,680)
Meet Daria and Daryl, the latest additions to the Chloé family of heavy-hitting must-have bags. As part of the luxury label’s Spring 2020 collection, these bags signal a big move for creative director Natacha Ramsay-Levi, as these latest arm candies are wholly new designs; a departure from her penchant to play off old favourites from her predecessor. First seen on the aforementioned runway clutched by models, the Daria is a refreshing reimagination of a bowling bag with a braided top handle, shoulder straps, and a longer crossbody strap so you can carry it any which way you like. The other new kid on the block — the Darryl bag, is a lovechild of a bucket and a hobo bag. Its soft rounded edges and structure are all kept into place with a looped leather outline detailing, making it as covetable and oh so huggable.
Loewe
Loewe Horseshoe Bag ($1,907)
For the last couple of years, this Spanish luxury label has been making recurring home runs with their collections that celebrate a bold new identity under the whimsical direction of Jonathan Anderson. This time around, things are no different, and you’ll want to keep their latest key accessory — the Loewe Horseshoe Bag, in mind to stay in the game with all your fashion-conscious pals. With practicality at the core of its design, its U-shaped frame references the silhouette of a traditional Spanish castagnette — a musical instrument, into a contemporary saddle-style bag that’s versatile for every occasion. Made in smooth calfskin and surrounded by a soft Nappa drawstring that’s cinched with a knotted top, you can adjust the length of the strap for options to wear it crossbody or over-the-shoulder as you like.
MCM
Top row (LEFT TO RIGHT): Patricia Crossbody Wallet in Color Block Leather ($600), Patricia Long Wallet in Color Block Visetos ($882), Patricia Crossbody in Color Block Visetos ($1,260).
Bottom row (left to right): Klara Hobo in Monogram Leather ($777), Klara Shoulder Bag ($728), Klara Crossbody Pouch in Monogram Leather ($595).
German luxury fashion house MCM’s latest bags and accessories feature a stimulating new Hot Coral colour palette, updating some of the label’s all-time favourite styles. The Bauhaus-inspired Patricia bags are fashioned in MCM’s heritage coated canvas with its front flap Laurel lock closure offering a classic appeal for those who favour old favourites. Alternatively, the Klara hobo bag epitomises practical luxury with a spacious interior lined with compartmentalised pockets to store all your daily essentials and more. Soft and structured, Klara’s exterior is sculpted (nearly) entirely from exquisite Nappa leather in the vibrant Hot Coral shade, encapsulating the vibrant spirit represented by MCM.
Alexander McQueen
Top row: Mini Jewelled Satchel ($2,365)
Bottom row: Mini Skull Lock Bag ($1,358)
Alexander McQueen has long dominated all things gorgeously gothic in fashion, and their latest bags is set to take things just a little further. The Mini Jewelled Satchel is instantly recognisable by its characteristic knuckleduster-like jewelled handle featuring the label’s iconic Alexander McQueen Skull. Wear it crossbody or carry it as a clutch through the front four rings to showcase the frighteningly beautiful detail of this new classic. The Mini Skull Lock Bag, on the other hand, is a notably more subtle rendition of McQueen’s quintessence of dangerous-coolness, with a mini skull sealing a boxy silhouette. Perfect for days when you don’t wanna make a show of your leanings to the dark side.
