Nicolas Cage Set to Play Tiger King in a New Scripted Series

Hey, all you cool cats and kittens if you’re a big Tiger King fan (like me) and are feeling withdrawal symptoms after re-watching the popular Netflix docuseries several times, you would be happy to know that a scripted series is coming your way with Nicolas Cage set to star in his first television role as the eccentric and highly-entertaining Joe Exotic.

Pretty sure Nicolas can pull off the mullet and beard since he already did something similar in Con-Air! (Image courtesy of Buena Vista Pictures/Entertainment Tonight)

Produced by Imagine Television Studios and CBS Television Studios, the upcoming series will see Dan Lagana (showrunner of the Emmy-nominated Netflix mockumentary American Vandal) serve as writer, showrunner, and executive producer. So far, there’s no additional announcement with regard to the official release date for the series as the project will be seeking distribution deals in the coming days.

This marks the second announced scripted series about the infamous Tiger King as the first was announced late last year with Saturday Night Live regular Kate McKinnon set to play Joe’s rival, Carole Baskin, in a series based on the Wondery podcast, Joe Exotic

Since Netflix’s Tiger King dropped on 20 March, the series has become a global sensation with a recent episode added in early April which caught up with the different individuals on life post-Joe Exotic. While it wasn’t really enough to satiate my hunger for more bananas content, the premise of the upcoming series definitely has me excited, and given Nicolas Cage’s range of acting, I’m quite confident that he would play a better Tiger King than Brad Pitt would (sorry Joe).

Now that we’ve got our Joe Exotic, who’s going to play Carole Baskin?
