By now you’re pretty much familiar with the terms “lash extensions” and “magnetic lashes” — many have praised how easy and effortless these methods are to achieve long fluttery lashes, without the hassle of putting on mascara. But there are other popular options that have gained traction over the years. Yes, you guessed it, we’re talking about the lash lift and tint treatment.
When I first chanced upon it, I wasn’t immediately drawn to the idea of having my lashes permed and tinted. However, after the Circuit Breaker, when my lash extensions have fallen off the face of the earth, I gave the highly-raved lash lift and tint treatment a try to find out what the hype was all about.
Now, for someone who has been wearing eyelash extensions for 4 years, I never considered baring my lashes without any extensions for this long. My eyes looked dull, sad and lacked the sparkle I once thought I had with my extensions on. Trust me, I understand the common gripe of switching over to a more natural option. But if you’re curious as to what these lash lifts can do to your eyes, read on.
WHAT IS A LASH LIFT AND TINT TREATMENT?
For the unacquainted, a lash lift and tint treatment is basically what you’d expect it to be — it lifts your lashes and gives them a darker tint to make them look fuller. It’s basically perming your lashes by boosting and lifting each individual lash with the use of a chemical solution for a more upward and realistic curl. The process is then followed by the tinting of the lashes by darkening and intensifying the colour with the use of permanent, cream-based dyes.
The most popular lash tint treatment at the moment would have to be the YUMI™ Lash Lift Keratin Treatment. This innovative treatment was derived from France and it involves filling your lashes with proteins, vitamins and pigments while increasing the length, curve and thickness of your lashes.
HOW LONG IS THE PROCESS?
The process of getting your lash lift and tint done will approximately take about an hour to an hour and a half, which is faster than doing lash extensions. However, this is entirely dependent on which lash salon you go to.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST ON AVERAGE?
On average, the signature YUMI™ Lash Lift Keratin Treatment provided by many salons, including popular favourites such as The Lash Chapter, will cost around $80 each.
HOW LONG WILL IT LAST FOR?
Having a lash lift and tint treatment has its advantages as compared to getting lash extensions. In general, a lash lift can last anywhere from 6 to 8 weeks, whereas lash extensions will be able to last you around 4 to 6 weeks.
CAN YOU WEAR A MASCARA WITH A LASH LIFT?
The great thing about getting a lash lift is that you can still apply your mascara if you want to bring more attention to your eyes. The only setback: it’s advisable to use less oil-infused products around the eye area to retain the curl and longevity of your lash lift.
CAN YOU DO EYELASH EXTENSIONS AFTER A LASH LIFT?
If you think you can get away with eyelash extensions right after your lash lift, you’re wrong. It’s advisable that you actually do wait out for 6 to 8 weeks when your lashes have grown out of the lash lift before you start on a new set of extensions. This is because when applied to fresh and lifted lashes, these extensions will likely fall off and might be uncomfortable, especially if your natural lashes are already curled from the lash lift treatment.
AFTERCARE
To care for your lashes, many lash technicians have recommended using an eyelash serum to promote the growth as well as to hydrate and strengthen your lashes, especially after “perming” it. These eyelash serums help cut down on breakage and shedding and are usually applied twice a day at the root of your lashes.
MY LASH LIFT EXPERIENCE
When I was considering the lash lift and tint treatment, I was very mindful of which salon I picked. Based on reviews, I found that The Lash Chapter was one of the more highly sought after salons that pride themselves on the YUMI™ Lash Lift Keratin treatment that they are very well known for. Of course, I decided to fully entrust them with my lashes right after.
Based on my experience, these lash lifts were definitely not what I had expected, in a good way. It brought my lashes back to life and it was nothing like what I was used to with my lash extensions. My lashes were definitely more curled and a lot darker than they were before — in fact, it looked as if I was wearing mascara when I obviously wasn’t.
What I like most about the treatment is how moisturising and nourishing my lashes felt even after chemically perming and dyeing it. Though, it is important to note that you have to refrain from rubbing or getting your lashes wet for the first 24 hours. On top of that, during this 24-hour period, you also have to avoid applying creams or cleanser around the eyes, mascara, and activities that leave any moisture that may alter the results of the lashes.
It’s also more affordable as compared to lash extensions and they last longer as well so you won’t have to worry about going in every few weeks to get your infills.
In summary, I would recommend this if you have longer lashes as the effect of the lash lift and tint may not be as obvious on shorter lashes. Also, it’s a fuss-free and natural-looking option that doesn’t cause your lashes to shed as often when compared to lash extensions do — which is great if you’re one who is prone to rubbing your eyes regularly or if your lashes keep falling out. It may not have the same dramatic look as lash extensions, but from the look and feel of it, it’s one worth trying especially if you’re looking for a pick-me-up for your bare lashes.
