The new year of big tech releases begins with Samsung as they unveiled the next addition to their line-up of smartphones at the recent Unpacked event.
The flagship Galaxy S21 Series, set to launch on 29 January 2021 in Singapore, joins the other devices in the Galaxy S series with an all-new iconic design for their three new models — the S21 5G, S21+ 5G and S21 Ultra 5G. Built with a pro-grade camera system for users of any skill level, their most advanced processor and the patented Samsung Knox security, it’s no wonder industry experts have since been comparing Samsung’s latest flagship series to the Apple iPhone 12 series.
.
Here’s a closer look at what you can expect from the Samsung Galaxy S21 Series, which begins pre-orders starting 15 January 2021.
SAMSUNG GALAXY S21 5G AND S21+ 5G
BOLD NEW DESIGN
The Samsung Galaxy S21 Series introduces an all-new iconic Contour Cut Camera housing that seamlessly blends into the device’s metal frame to give you a sleek but striking aesthetic. Designed for those who prefer something light, the Galaxy S21 features a compact 6.2-inch display that fits perfectly in the palm of your hand while the Galaxy S21+ 5G brings you an expanded 6.7-inch display to give you a more immersive viewing and playing experience.
To give you more colour options, S21 5G and S21+ 5G will both be available in Phantom White, Phantom Violet and Phantom Black, alongside an additional Phantom Pink colour for the S21 5G.
.
With an intelligent, edge-to-edge Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity-O 120Hz display, you can expect an adaptive user interface that allows for smoother scrolling and viewing. This means that your Galaxy S21 5G or S21+ 5G has the ability to automatically adjust the frame rate based on the content you’re browsing.
In an effort to help you reduce eye fatigue, an all-new Eye Comfort Shield has also been built into the display to instantly adjust the blue light based on your surrounding.
.
IMPRESSIVE REAR CAMERA SYSTEM
The Galaxy S21 5G and S21+ 5G’s AI-powered triple-lens pro-grade rear camera system includes a 12MP Ultra-Wide Camera, 12MP Wide-Angle Camera and 64MP Telephoto Camera, and is designed to intuitively assess and adjust to your scene to ensure that you capture perfect photos in any environment.
.
In Portrait Mode, the AI-powered cameras leverage on an improved 3D analysis that more accurately separates your subject from the surrounding background. It also gives you a variety of options such as virtual studio lighting and AI background effects to help make your subject pop from the frame.
.
New features for the camera system also includes an improved 8K Snap, which allows you to grab crystal clear still images from your recorded 8K video footage; Single Take, which allows you to capture a variety of still photos and video footage with one tap; and Director’s View, which allows you to record your video using various methods such as capturing footage using the front and rear cameras at the same time and to preview or change the angle, zoom or wide shot while recording.
Space Zoom has also been improved with Zoom Lock to help you get clear and steady shots. The feature minimises shaky hands and is able to capture clearer images at 30x zoom by leveraging AI to keep your focal point in the centre of the frame.
.
INTELLIGENT BATTERY
Power through your day with up to 4,800mAh battery power that works hand-in-hand with the new power-efficient display and processor to push the battery usage beyond the 24-hour mark.
In addition to this, you’ll get to enjoy Super Fast Charging, Fast Wireless Charging, and Wireless PowerShare which let you use your phone to charge your earbuds, watch, or even a friend’s phone.
SAMSUNG GALAXY S21 ULTRA 5G
MOST INTELLIGENT DISPLAY ON A SAMSUNG DEVICE
While the design for the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G does not differ too much from the other two models, it is the largest member of the series sporting a 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with Eye Comfort Shield. However, unlike the variety of colours available for the S21 and S21+, the S21 Ultra 5G will come in two colours — Phantom Black and Phantom White.
Dubbed the most intelligent screen yet, the Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G is also the first-ever device to offer users both the smoothness of a 120Hz refresh rate and a Quad HD+ display.
This means that your screen will not have the ability to adjust the refresh rate from 10Hz to 120Hz, based on the type of content you’re viewing, to ensure you get the best viewing experience while staying power efficient to maintain your battery life.
.
BEST-IN-CLASS REAR QUAD-CAMERA SYSTEM
The Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G is built with a quad-camera system featuring a 12MP Ultra-Wide Camera, 108MP Wide-Angle Camera, 10MP Telephoto Camera with 3x Optical, and a second 10MP Telephoto Camera with 10x Optical.
With an upgraded wide-angle camera that comes with a 108MP pro sensor, you can now capture 12-bit HDR photos with 64 times richer colour data and a wider dynamic range. As a first for a Galaxy smartphone, the S21 Ultra 5G allows you to shoot in 4K quality at 60 fps across all lenses including the front and rear cameras.
.
Improved features include the Bright Night sensor for low-light photography and Night Mode, which has a better noise reduction and 12MP Nona-binning technology that gives you the ability to capture challenging shots in dimly-lit or dark locations quickly in excellent quality.
The Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G has also improved their 100x Space Zoom using the power of Samsung’s first-ever Dual Pixel (2PD) Dual-tele lens system — one with optical 3x and another with optical 10x — for you to capture clear shots even when you are far from your subject.
.
ELEVATED PRODUCTIVITY WITH THE S PEN
For the first time on any Galaxy S Series device, Samsung has incorporated the fan favourite S Pen experience to the Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G with Wacom’s technology.
From drawing to note-taking or even the editing of photos, the S Pen is ready to redefine your user experience and all-round productivity. You can use an existing S Pen from a Galaxy Note or Galaxy Tab, or purchase an S Pen separately on its own to start.
.
MASSIVE BATTERY LIFE
The Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G lets you get through the day with its 5,000mAh battery that has the ability to run beyond the 24-hour mark. Similar to the S21 5G and S21+ 5G, you’ll be able to enjoy Fast Wireless Charging, Wireless PowerShare and Super Fast Charging which delivers more than 50% charge in just 30 minutes with a 25W Travel Adapter.
SAMSUNG GALAXY S21 SERIES DELIVERS ON PERFORMANCE
The Samsung Galaxy S21 smartphones feature the latest and powerful 5nm processor to give you greater speed, energy efficiency, on-device AI, and has advanced computing capabilities to support future 5G connectivity in Singapore.
.
Since we spend most of our time on our phones, Samsung has taken protecting our sensitive information to the next level by equipping the Galaxy S21 Series with Samsung Knox Vault, Samsung’s own proprietary chipset level security platform that not only helps to encrypt your biometric authentication data but also allows you to unlock your phone faster even if your finger is dry with the larger, lower latency Ultrasonic Fingerprint sensor.
Alongside the new layer of protection, the Galaxy S21 range also introduces a new Private Share feature which allows you to safely remove location metadata from photos before sharing and control who gets access to the content you send.
