CHANEL’s 2020/21 Métiers d’art collection, “Le Château des Dames” is a nod to the Château de Chenonceau; a castle designed and lived in by women, including the famous Catherine de’ Medici. Virginie Viard, Creative Director of CHANEL believes that it’s highly likely Coco Chanel was inspired by Medici considering her taste for lace ruffs and the aesthetics of some of her ornate jewellery, and these style notes extend from the collection’s garments to its accessories. Viard has designed pieces that sit between different eras — “between the Renaissance and romanticism, between rock and something very girly, it is all very Chanel,” she says. Here are the bags, shoes and accessories that will be in boutiques at the end of June 2021.
