Given the current state of gloomy uncertainty, much emphasis has been placed on “manifesting” good things — the practice of visualising what we want and believing in them till they become reality, whether that’s the law of attraction or good old self-belief. Perhaps we shouldn’t roll our eyes just yet, after all a positive outlook can be quite the soothing balm these days.
So here’s a little practice. It’s way easier to manifest good days ahead when looking at the bunch of cheery pieces the UNIQLO x Marimekko collection has got for us.
The limited edition Spring-Summer 2021 capsule series is inspired by Nordic midsummer traditions and joyful summers that has us immediately desiring open fields and warm sunlit afternoons, and includes dresses, jumpsuits, shirts, t-shirts, and more in the Finnish design house’s vibrant prints. A colour palette of peach, pink, and bright blues are suitably bright as well, seen on breathable fabrics and relaxed silhouettes that are extra functional in warm weather.

For the first time, the long-standing partners are also featuring patterns dreamed up by Japanese designer Fujiwo Ishimoto. These combine Scandinavian design with Japanese elements that culminate in an idyllic Seitsemän Kukkaa (seven flowers) design, a Talkoot (work party) print of oversized flowers, and the Pikkulempi (little love) pattern, of flowers in a meadow, most prominently featured on the denim camisole dresses. Elsewhere, the graphic patterns of renowned designer Annika Rimala see lively lines and stripes that seem to jump off the clothes.
Other than women’s apparel, the collection also extends to matching dresses for coordinated mother-daughter styling, as well as bodysuits for babies. There are also accessories — a casual wide-brimmed hat makes the cut, along with matching shoulder bags and espadrille sandals that make dreaming, and hopefully living, the outdoors life something we want to look forward to.
