It isn’t very often that we get close enough to admire the spectacular plumage of our feathered friends, so we’re glad that Dior Beauty‘s latest Fall collection manages to capture the resplendence of birds and their feathers, in ways we often overlook.
Like a flight of fancy that actually comes true, Peter Philips, Creative and Image Director for Dior Makeup, gives us lots to admire, with iridescent tones and duochrome formulas that simultaneously represent the shifting tones of autumn. On top of these, we also see a meticulous feather design stamped across the eyeshadow and blush palettes, a technical feat that’s exclusive to the collection.
“I like the idea of a collection of complementary colours, where you can combine iridescent effects and pigments, green, pink, and golden and platinum tones,” Peter Philips explains. “Birds of a Feather is a realm of possibilities that allows you to create fall makeup looks that can be dramatic, sexy or natural.”
The collection sees two new versions of Dior’s iconic 5 Couleurs Couture palette, of fine and creamy powder textures, as well as a new duochrome finish. ‘Night Bird’ is built around a bright coral, though with cooler tones of vanilla, olive-gold, peacock green, and scarab green surrounding it. For ‘Early Bird’, Dior switches it up with warm tones of platinum pink, cinnamon, deep purple brown, coppery red, and platinum grey.
Soft plums, browns and rose, as well as coral tones, appear elsewhere in the collection as well, starting with the two Rouge Blushes. The embossed feather motif from the eyeshadow palettes are carried over here, in shades of a vibrant ‘Coral Flight’ and ‘Nude Glide’, a rosy beige.
The lip series includes the Rouge Dior Ultra Care Liquid, Rouge Dior Ultra Rouge, both formulas that caress the lips as light as a feather, while the Rouge Graphist lip pencil offers bolder shades of nude, coral, and plum.
Still, the most mesmerising of these have to be the Dior Vernis nail polishes — pearlescent and iridescent all at once, the colours range from an eggplant that shifts into green and yellow hues, to a stunning duochrome green gold, and a platinum with rosy accents.
