Want to smell like a billionaire? Easy, let Rihanna have your money. From music to makeup and skincare, and even a lingerie line, the multi-hypenate queen and recently-crowned billionaire is about to expand her empire with a new launch — Fenty Beauty’s first-ever fragrance. Obviously, we’ve seen the teasers for the luxurious sheer amber-brown bottle on social media all week, promising a “deeply intimate, unisex scent”. The new Fenty Eau de Parfum debuts on fentybeauty.com on 10 August, and now, we can finally tell you what it’s all about.
Its fragrance notes may give a whiff of what Rihanna wants to smell like — and you bet this one’s a heady, sensual and seductive scent that brings in notes of magnolia, musk, tangerine and blueberry, with hints of Bulgarian rose absolute, geranium and patchouli. Though floral and fruity at the same time, it sets itself apart from other celebrity scents, with a tad of spice, and an elevated, nuanced take on scent, befitting for the We Found Love singer and beauty mogul.
According to Rihanna, she took inspiration from her favourite destinations, including Bridgetown in Barbados, Grasse in France, as well as the vibrant cities of New York, Paris, and Los Angeles. In fact, the pop star had travelled to perfume capital of the world, Grasse, to work with revered LVMH nose Jacques Cavallier Belletrud on her dream scent.
The master perfumer for Louis Vuitton described the perfume as “simple in terms of construction, with fantastic ingredients”, while adding that it has no dry down, so the scent doesn’t need time to fully evolve — essentially, what you smell is what you get.
As for the antique-inspired bottle, Rihanna said that she was going for “a rich colour that really represented all genders from across all walks of life”.
“Brown is my favourite colour. Brown is who I am. Brown is what I come from”, she said, while elaborating on the bottle’s design, meant to fit perfectly in your hand. “If I’m going to make a fragrance that represents me, even the body language of the bottle needs to marry that. So, I wanted something brown, but also transparent — so you could see the liquid and the fragrance you’re about to experience.” All we can say is, we’re ready to find love again.
Fenty Eau de Parfum, USD120, available from 10 August 2021 on FENTYBEAUTY.COM.
