Earlier this month, CHANEL reopened the doors of its popular fashion boutique in Takashimaya Shopping Centre. The renovated store is expanded and houses a larger-than-ever collection of the brand’s Ready-to-Wear, handbags, shoes, accessories, watches and fine jewellery. The store is at the original units across level 1 and 2 where it was previously located — but bigger.

New York architect, Peter Marino who’s renowned for his architecture in New York City, was once again entrusted to interpret the aesthetic codes of the House, and for this new boutique design, he draws inspiration from Mademoiselle Chanel’s famous apartment in Paris on 31, rue Cambon. The most notable reference would be the mirror-lined staircase that has a mesmerising prism effect (similar to the one in Chanel’s Parisian apartment), and leads to the second floor where the Ready-to-Wear and fitting rooms reside. And looking up from the base of the stairs, you’ll see two hanging sculptures made of cut vinyl records by Gregor Hildebrandt, and these adorn the whole length of the high ceiling.
On the second floor, you’ll also find a set of three photographs by Alec Soth representing The Grand Palais in Paris, and that complements a black and white screen by French visual artist, Jean-Michel Othoniel. Within the luxurious fitting rooms, you’ll find enamelled stoneware with a gorgeous gold lustre designed by Johan Creten, as well as paintings of Gabrielle Chanel’s favourite flower, the camellia, by New York-based artist, Peter Dayton.
The House’s emblematic colour palette of white, beige and black are seen throughout the boutique and create an elegant yet intimate setting for shoppers. The setting is modern, and full of splendour; it invites customers to explore the various sections across the two floors and to discover the current collection of the House.
