The Gucci Bamboo 1947 Collection Sees The It-Bag In New Vibrant Colours

Bamboo might be a rather unusual material when we think of high-end leather goods, but if you know your bags, then the Gucci Bamboo Bag should spring to mind. Used for its top handle and closure, the used here is carefully hand-picked, sanded, shaped, and finished by hand so it looks magnificently refined. In fact, to achieve that sleek curve, the bag’s bamboo handles have to literally be put through fire, via a process originally conceived by Florentine artisans during the post-war period, a time when traditional raw materials were difficult to come by.

The storied bag is given a new lease of life though, with the new Gucci Bamboo 1947 collection. Here, Alessandro Michele takes inspiration from the house icon, conceiving a contemporary iteration that highlights the lightweight and durable bamboo design with vibrant colours and modern design fixtures. These new top handle bags feature interchangeable leather and Web shoulder straps,  which make the style more versatile than ever.

What’s also exciting is the variety of  vivid colours available in the new line. Apart from the usual neutrals such as black, brown and white, the mini sizes are available in marigold yellow, pink, azure and bright green, making the style an absolutely fun addition to your existing wardrobe.

As part of the Gucci Bamboo 1947 campaign, Gucci has also invited 9 international creatives to submit a series of photographs, illustrations, paintings and videos that reflect on their personal vision of the icon. We’re then privy to all sorts of art forms through the project, whether it’s surrealist images of the Gucci bag, dreamy sets that imagine it in a blooming fantasy landscape, or digital illustrations that play on the house’s quirky vibes.
