Sneakerheads and those into high fashion tie-ups won’t want to miss this — luxury fashion house Louis Vuitton just announced that their highly-anticipated Nike ”Air Force 1” collection, designed by the late Virgil Abloh, will be out in stores this June.
The world first set eyes on the collection earlier on the runway of Louis Vuitton’s Spring-Summer 2022 Men’s Collection, where we learnt that a total of 47 bespoke editions of the Louis Vuitton x Nike collaboration were created by the designer.
This time, we’ll be getting 9 editions of the sneaker, including two mid-cut offerings (€2,500) and seven low-top styles (€2,000). These will be launched globally via an inclusive digital activation, while members of the LV’s community will be offered early access to pre-order the shoes.
Now, let’s talk design. All of the sneakers are manufactured at Louis Vuitton’s atelier in Venice, Italy, where each design combines the most recognisable “Air Force 1” codes from Nike’s cult-favourite shoes with the maison’s finest leather and signature LV insignia. You’ll find Abloh’s iconic detailing present as well, most particularly his favourite air-quotes on the word “Lacet” on the shoelaces and “Air” on the soles.
The most minimalist of the designs are all-white leather sneakers, in both mid-cut and low-cut versions, which come embossed with the Louis Vuitton Monogram; the same design is available in black suede. Two-tone editions in white paired with green, red, or blue detailing also exist, while these are some bolder designs that see a metallic gold, one with multi-colour patchwork, and a Damier edition that bears a graffiti motif by the artist Ghusto Leone.
On top of the sneakers’ launch, there will also be an exhibition in New York City where fans will get to see all 47 editions of Abloh’s “Air Force 1” shoes on display. Held from 20 – 31 May, it will be held at the Greenpoint Terminal Warehouse in New York City, with the exhibition space turning into a surrealist landscape of clouds and a fantastical treehouse that pays tribute to the creator’s imagination, as well as his show sets and campaign imagery.
