CHANEL eyewear just got sexier, with a series of high-contrast monochromatic portraits that show off every line, curve, and design feature of this year’s collection. The house’s 2022 eyewear campaign, lensed by Karim Sadli, features models Rianne Van Rompaey, Blesnya Minher and Pan Haowen, who effortlessly pull off the looks in gleaming leather tops and minimal jewellery — after all, the frames certainly take up much of the focus here, whether they happen to be sunglasses or optical lenses. Ahead, a look at the three styles you’ll want to take note of.
the chains
By now, you’d know that “metal chains intertwined with leather” is basically symbolic of CHANEL as a fashion house, whether on their coveted leather bags or seen here accessorising their eyewear frames. These removable jewelled chains advance the “granny chain” trend way towards the undeniably cool end of the spectrum, as they’re subtly designed with a double C charm, for instance, or CHANEL letters. Pair them with large square acetate sunglasses, seen on Pan Haowen, or a slender optical butterfly metal frame à la Dutch model Rianne Van Rompaey.
the aviators
Aviators are already a classic style, though CHANEL imbues them with even more vintage vibes. Blesnya Minher’s pair of sunglasses give off masculine-meets-feminine cool, while the thin metal design of Rianne Van Rompaey’s optical glasses pay tribute to the 1960s. It’s then finished off with leather-clad temples for added detail.
the bold acetate
Acetate has been having a moment, and here, it’s clear to see that CHANEL has amped up the proportions as well for extra glamour. Square and rectangle designs go oversized, with thick acetate and just-as-wide temples with a keen detail of gathered leather. The sides also feature the emblematic double C of the house — all the better to flaunt your latest luxury purchase.
