So, now that the Yeezy Season 3 show is done and dusted, here’s something else you need to gush about — RiRi’s runway debut at New York Fashion Week. Between the two musician-turned-fashion-designers, we’re not ashamed to say that we were way more excited about this one, considering that, well, Rihanna does have a way more creative wardrobe.
Yes, there was an abundance of oversized sweatshirts, but the models wear these with a killer sneaker-stilettos combo, taking streetwear from pedestrian to something way, way sexier. The Fenty x Puma FW16 show is also her label’s first catwalk collaboration with Puma, and as creative director, Rihanna pulled out all the stops, with stunning looks, and an equally impressive set design of an arctic high fashion forest. That means, it’s clearly ironic that among the bare, wintry trees, snowy hairdos, and icy looks on the models’ faces, each look came out strong, fiery and blazing hot. Way to up the Anti.
Most of them weren’t afraid to show plenty of skin — even dramatically oversized hoodies, draped to the side and worn on its own. Sheer mesh tees were especially gratuitous, it wasn’t hard to spy some underboob, while pants seem to have gotten lost along the way, though very deliberately of course. It was basically slouchy, comfy streetwear turned sexy.
Naturally, Rihanna’s famous friends and supporters came out in full force too. Check out the front row: Chris Rock, Wale, Jeremy Scott, Naomi Campbell, Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele and Anna Wintour. Then, before you know it, the Hadid sisters came strutting down the runway, in typical stunning fashion. Gigi Hadid dropped her sunshine-girl smile for a smouldering black lippie and an oversized coat that was artfully draped across her slender frame. As for Bella Hadid, we’re already used to her darker vibes, so her in this lace-up number, with a cutout that went down the entire left side of her body, seemed particularly fitting.
Yet, with all the goth elements and witchy vibes, thanks to the slicked-back hair, dark lips and accessories, the sportswear theme still prevailed. Zippers, baggy silhouettes and sports bras were present throughout the entirely monochrome collection. And for once, despite the lack of colour, we weren’t bored at all. Now, time to have Anti on loop as we wait for the collection to drop in stores.
